Terror Is Addictive [Dynaudio Livesession/Smukfest 2018]

Rýk consists of four young guys who all are familiar faces in the musical underground of Aalborg, Denmark. Their musical spectrum has roots in Post Punk and ends in depths of blurry and noisy Shoegaze. In between those two genres is artistic and somewhat innovative song writing, which should not be categorized by genres.

Rýk has several premises and ideas of importance when playing for an audience, these are to construct an intensity, an original aesthetic, and to make the act of improvisation, movement and instinct, drive the performance. – to fight the clichés that todays popular music simulates, to crowdplease and making art for sake of money.

Rýk was formed in the spring of 2017.
Last year, Rýk won the musical competition "Fatter Eskild Prisen" in Aarhus, Denmark with over 100 competitors. The prize included 25.000 DKK worth of recording at the Tapetown Studios in Aarhus, and a concert at Denmarks 2nd biggest festival “Smukfest”. This concert paid of good with really positive reviews from two of Denmarks leading music magazines Gaffa and Bands Of Tomorrow.

The next step for Rýk is to release their first single entitled “Young” (uploaded to this presentation) this will happen within the next month. Before the end of 2018, Rýk also schedules to release a second single, leading up to a 40 minute EP that should be released in 2019.

They are confident in the causal way, they look engrossed by the rock-patos and the hypnotic progression. I personally credit them one extra point as the bassist is wearing a Swans T-shirt, and when he plays the trumpet on one of the songs - it really succeeds. Their songs are more different than what the genres usually offers, especially the use of discodrums on that last reckless song, it worked overwhelmingly good.”

Rýk, lit the blue touch-paper and almost blew the roof off the studio. Starting with a psychedelic, jamming-style track (with added trumpet), they built and built until even Ashley was sitting slack-jawed, watching through the glass. Think ‘new-wave Nirvana’ and you’re pretty much there. Utterly unbridled, utterly committed.
