# STORY
Ryvage means ‘shore’, and has been the moniker for the musical explorations of electronic musician and producer Samuel Reinard since 2017. Driven by his love of contrasts and produced in isolation, Reinard’s synth-driven electro-pop and electronica, and its visual incarnations, are a reflection of his personal obsessions, spanning 80s sci-fi movie soundtracks, industrial electronica, electro-pop in the vein of early The Knife, immersive installation art and echoes of French literature.
The name ryvage (pronounce revaj) says it all, according to Reinard: “My homebase Luxembourg is landlocked. It can be claustrophobic to live in such a small country. To me, making music is like driving to the sea, sitting at the shore and contemplating the horizon. It is a safe and beautiful place where you can be in the moment and let your imagination go wild. I also like the idea of being on the threshold of two worlds or elements. The Pythagorean y, replacing the i in ryvage, reflects this inherent duality of our existence. Ryvage oscillates around contrasts, change and escapism”.
Ryvage has performed live at festivals like Food for Your Senses (LU), Siren’s Call (LU), les Aralunaires (BE) and Zikametz (F) and opened for artists such as Liars (US), Blanck Mass (UK) and Throwing Snow (UK). In January 2018 he released a rework of the track Bubbles by Drops and Points, the electronic project initiated by multi- award-winning composer and jazz vibraphonist Pascal Schumacher (LU), as part of the Drops & Points Reworks EP featuring remixes by artists such as Stimming and Paul Frick. The same year he composed the music for the official trailer of the Luxembourg City Film Festival. His reworks of Ice in my eyes’ Heart and Soul and acclaimed dreampop producer Sun Glitters’ Another day, Another time are due for Autumn 2018.

Wrote this song in my studio during the lockdown, at the moment when I really started to realise that this whole situation was likely to last and could have long-term consequences on our societies... The basic idea and the melody came very quickly to me, instinctively. I think I wanted to capture the clash between the imposed lockdown slowness and the feeling of sanitary urgency.
Tulipe is a soundtrack of a world that has gone off the rails… it’s dark, but not hopeless.

What’s behind the track?
I didn't know why, but I knew instantly that it should be called Tulipe (in French). Later I remembered an article I had read about the Tulip Mania phenomenon, a period in the Dutch Golden Age in the 17th century during which prices for tulips reached stratospheric heights before dramatically collapsing and ruining huge parts of society. Those flowers had been infected by a virus which was causing very fashionable and unique colour effects on the petals, but also endangered the reproduction of the tulips, which led to the creation of a speculative bubble and an economic crisis, right at the time of a plague outbreak.


Isn't it paradoxical and romantic that virus-infected tulips would drive men so crazy that they’d sell their possessions to acquire one of the coveted flowers? Analogies with current-day strike me… a globalised world, massive wealth and hubris for some, collective hysteria, and a virus that came out of nowhere to cause a major crisis…

Wicca and I met in Paris before a synthwave party at Le Petit Bain. We immediately hit it off between us and we quickly decided that we were going to do a remix exchange. I like his acid and slow techno musical universe! 

Wicca in his own words: “Since Ryvage's _très_ synthwavy tunes are definitely anchored in a neon-glowing, post-80s nostalgia (a religion I confess to having preached myself for many years, too), I hence chose to give this track a solid core revamp, in the form of what would be for me a natural evolution of this nostalgic prism: the yearning for all-out, back to basics 90's big room tech. Always ascending, an endless throbbing pattern of pressure and release: isn't it what techno... and _waves_ are all about ?”

Ryvage - Waves (Wicca Remix)

From his secluded home-base in landlocked Luxembourg, electronic musician Ryvage, pronounced /riːˈvɑːʒ (from the French word ‘rivage’ meaning ‘shore’), embarks on his musical expeditions, blending ambient techno, synthwave, and industrial tinged electro in his tracks and live performances.

Throughout three EPs, several remixes and singles, as well as compositions for interdisciplinary projects and art installations, he has continuously developed his distinctive sound by balancing emotion and sonic experimentation, while refining his narrative approach to electronic music.

His hypnotic and multi-faceted live performances have led him to open for artists such as Rone (FR), Vitalic (FR), Throwing Snow (UK), Christian Löffler (DE), and Blanck Mass (UK), and to play at festivals in France, Belgium, Germany and Luxembourg. The tracks from his 'Les Nuits I' EP (2023) have been remixed by artists such as Djedjotronic (Italo Moderni, Boysnoize Records), Madben (Ellum, Trunkline), and Etienne Jaumet (Zombie Zombie) and featured on European radio stations such as BBC Radio 6 Music, 808 Radio and Tsugi Radio.

2024 marks the release of a remix for Copenhagen based artist Rome in Reverse, the soundtrack for the VR experience 'Errances' by Skill Lab (Siggraph VR Theater, Nominee for the Stereopsia XR Awards...), the four-track EP 'Les Nuits II', as well as various live shows in Luxembourg and abroad.
