Out here in the middle of nowhere it was easy to forget the importance of human contact. For as long as he could remember this little cottage in the depths of the countryside had been home. He was as secluded as one could get, and that suited him just fine, after all you didn't miss what you'd never had. Nature and its inhabitants were his closest confidants; the sheep that roamed the fields, the bees that buzzed in his garden and the woodpecker that perched on his window each morning - they listened to his thoughts, feelings and ramblings, without expecting anything in return.

It's been over a year since London's Control Freak Recordings, the label arm of party starters Cabin Fever, shared a new record in their White Label series. Always available as a super limited run of hand-stamped records (once they're gone, they're really gone), previous contributions have come from Syz as well as Guava, Breaka and pals, and now they're firing it up once again with an EP from Graz-based producer Awo Ojiji. While the wigged-out, percussive tracks take cues from UK club music, specifically the realms of leftfield techno and bass, he manages to craft his own singular take on these UK-centric sounds.

I originally made this as a tool that I wanted to use and share amongst some mates. However, I've decided to stick it out. 

Sampled the amazing Mala Rodriguez on this one, it's quite a stripped back, funky inspired record.

For the 3rd instalment of FACE 4 RADIO I’m buzzing to welcome the mega talented Speedy P💥 also the first guest on the show! Here’s a few words about this mix from the bass master himself:

“Had real fun kicking this one off a little slower than usual, playing around with the low bpm wobblers before launching from 100-145bpm. I traverse a wide palette of left-leaning sounds: touching on tribal breaks, bass, world club, uk funky, glitchy techno and even a sprinkling of prog. Lots of different moods and passages in there, reflecting how I like a set to unfold!”

This was another one of those rare moments when I listen to a straight up demo cold and just instantly know that it’s completely and utterly right for the label. Qant ( @qqantt ) served me up some eyes down, impeccably produced bass heavy slices of pie and I was gobbling them down before you could say extra mozzarella.

Big beats, big bass and enough bleep bloops to set up a satellite business.

HHSUB007 - Qant - Moonsick EP (Clips)

@stonestaro returns to Scuffed Recordings with three new UK-tinged club tracks, backed by a remix from @tim-reaper.

The trajectory of Kyoto-based Stones Taro and Scuffed Recordings have been intertwined since their earliest days, with Taro releasing one of the first EPs on Scuffed back in 2017 and releasing regularly with Ian DPM and Wager's label ever since.

Since then, his tracks have been supported by the likes of Ben UFO, DJ Q, Jamz Supernova, Conducta and Soichi Terada, with releases on Time Is Now, Kouncil Cuts, and his own co-run label NC4K.

The producer, DJ and label owner has always worn his UK dance music influences proudly on his sleeve, and his latest outing on the Ton Tan EP continues in much the same vein, with three new originals incorporating breakbeat house, UK funky-influenced percussion, and proto-dubstep wobbles.

Closing out the release is Tim Reaper, one of the vanguard of the jungle revival, on the remix for the EP’s title track - an all-out assault of hoovers and upfront breaks.

Co-founder Rassan returns to the catalog in a five track EP of no-nonsense bass-heavy steppers, featuring a remix from Kyoto’s Stones Taro. 

Rassan kicks things off with ‘Saxon Dub’ uniting bass musics’ core elements with his own distinct flavor, as sprawling drums leak over the sweltering yet rhythmically placed bass line. ‘Slide ‘N’ Wine’ is a piece of screw-face-two-step that moves people from their seats, with fun heavily at its core; the type of track where approved looks are exchanged in the heat of the rallying club.

‘Up To No Good’ shuffles into the fore with bubble-gum vocal samples and rolling percussion before title track ‘Better Be Careful’ shuts things down with a frightening hair-raising slammer that should be used with caution.

One artist that knows how to make an impact is Stones Taro and since arriving on the scene with a string of productions on Scuffed Recordings to legendary UK label Hardline, Taro has cemented himself as one of the most exciting new names in dance music. Here he is on hand to remix ‘Saxon Dub’ lacing a chopped vocal sample over one of the best bass lines you’re likely to hear all year.
