From the very start of Bonebrokk’s debut album, we are plunged into a downward spiral of industrial percussion and distorted voices. ‘Altered Realities’ builds a terrifying maelstrom out of what sounds like an engine in a deep tunnel, a seismic alarm, and a hype MC calling for help through a busted intercom. Soon a galloping kick appears and we are off to the races. From there, the record rarely lets up.

The sonic palette remains fairly consistent throughout, but the album covers a lot of ground rhythmically and stylistically, touching on deformed dancehall, hyperfuture dnb (Vassilina’s guest spot provides one of the few moments of relative tenderness), and loads of mutant, latin-inflected techno rollers. Two beatless interludes provide breathers—‘Timelines Melt’ and ‘Valey of Wolves’— although, as the titles might suggest, even these are steeped in dread.

Bonebrokk has crafted ‘In Between Two Worlds’ as a bridge into an imagined world that he can escape to, a respite from the banality of day jobs and our mundane everyday existence that club music can provide for us all.

As the night begins, it feels like a deviant Gqom anthem blasting through a sultry warehouse in the middle of a semi-deserted grassland. With a blend of broken beat arrangements combined with syncopated chords and followed by mind-numbing vocals and dystopian arpeggios, Hedchef wraps up a peak-time cut that will please high-spirited villains only.

Hünter returns to Ommaya with his debut LP 'Cypress,' a deeply personal exploratory expansion of his sound inspired by memories from his childhood. NYC-based Bell Curve @bell_curve (co-founder of the incredible albeit no longer active Worst Behavior) and San Diego's Bloodhound contribute remixes that flip Hünter's ethereal offerings into two undeniable head knockers.

Hünter wrote a few words on the project:

"The album's core focus is the sounds of my nostalgia. As a young boy, my father and I would often travel to British Columbia and I’d help around our property on Bowen Island. I’d be by myself in the thick of weeds and plants toying with garden machinery while my dad blasted opera and choral music in the house. These were times of solace in my youth, as a kid I spent a lot of time alone. Bowen was and still is my favorite place on earth.

The title ‘Cypress’ is the name of the ski resort that you can barely see from the East shores of the island. Its lights twinkle in the clouds at night. It speaks to the environment of which this album is built upon. Towering mountains, large bodies of water, cool breeze, greenery, fresh crisp air. Stunning summers and comfy winters.

The album was greatly inspired by artists like Autechre, Lee Gamble, Boards of Canada, Bjarki and Loraine James. Without intent it naturally came together with a variety of genres. Projects range from December ’22 to April ’24 and include a variety of field recordings from this period."

'BLACK PEARL' is the debut album by Eora/Sydney-based DJ, singer & producer @adrian-ash3r. The founder of much beloved local label @bass_water_freak_out, Asher's debut full-length release is a mammoth 23 track journey through drum & bass, trance, happy hardcore, ambient and all manner of personal poetry.

'GOTTA SAVE VENUS' is the release's 13th track, a moment of calmness in amongst the record's otherwise blasting bass, trap and trance which he's designed specifically for live performance. The track, featuring accompanying vocals by lil Flower, shows off Asher's vocals in a space dedicated to contextual subtlety. Crunchy breaks sit underneath moody pads, with Asher & lil Flowers beckoning for the listener to "swim deeper" intertwining into one another.

Of the track, Asher shared: "This song is a scifi trip in my flying car. At the time of writing I had an old 1987 Toyota Celica which I used to fly around in, sometimes to Venus. Lil Flower, a French singer, put some lovely vocals down and became the Venus whisper calling you to fly away. It's a lonely journey but there is purpose. In the breakdown I sing 'If you wake a mile beneath the sea, do not let panic twist your heart, take my hand swim deeper'. Just a reminder to self to stay calm in the chaos. Also sometimes I have dreams about breathing water which is nice."
