Our mix series continues with Moscow-based artist Ушко. In 2020, Dasha Korotkova debuted her Silver Hits album, later starting a collaboration with producer Moa Pillar. After that, she joined the roster of his label ПИР. Other collaborations include WULFFLUW XCIV and a recent performance with kedr livanskiy. Also, she has participated in Fields, Castalia, JagerVibes, and Resonance events.

The new guest of the “ethereal mix” series is singer and producer from Moscow Veronika Steklova, who publishes music by the name MC Ulybochka.

Nika began to engage in musical creativity while still studying at school. She released her first tracks as Nika Boginya at the age of 13-15, and only in 2019 she made her debut under her current pseudonym with the album “Ччч звучит мягко” (“Chchch zvuchit miagko”)

Over the next 4 years, her discography was replenished with the mini-album “Осенний грув” (“Osennii Gruv”, 2020) and the long-plays “Реальная магия» (“Real’naya magiia”, 2021), presented at “Nisha”, and the latest at the moment “Glamour&parkour”, which was released on the “Label” platform in late last month.

In addition, Veronica took part in the creation of the LP “Месседж” («Messedzh”, 2023) by Dima Komarov (Polska Octavia) and “Прозрачность соленых ресниц” («Prozrachnost solyonih resnitz”, 2022) by Kolya Dolgov (Paita). Both artists were also featured in our mixes series.

«Сначала я собрала микс на четыре часа, и его было очень сложно сократить. Потом я удалила почти все, и осталось 20 минут, из которых я еще около суток пыталась сделать 50. Я очень люблю резать: (скорее всего) это незаметно, но там много расставленных повсюду семплов, в том числе основная тема — голос диктора с «Пиратской Станции» и «Я люблю драм-энд-бэйс». Хотелось сделать некоторые фразы/слова связующими и нарочито тупо повторяющимися («апокалипсис», «ну что, Васёк, ты тему просёк?»). Может, с их помощью я веду диалог... Мне правда интересно, что люди думают и как реагируют на определенные вещи в музыке. 

Мне было очень смешно в процессе и, надеюсь, что это передается. Я старалась делать по приколу и разнообразно, чтобы не было скучно в процессе. Потому что сама часто перематываю миксы, а тут все довольно быстро происходит… 

В этом миксе три моих любимых жанра: брейкбит, фавела и академическая хоровая музыка. А еще мне хотелось соединить бразильский фанк с чем-то родным «русским», и я по приколу смиксовала это с детской песней «Комары». Так же, как и MC Don Juan с вечным для меня хитом от Awesome 3».

«At first I’ve made a 4-hour mix, and it was very difficult to cut it. Then I deleted almost everything, so that 20 minutes remained, so I tried to drag it out to make 50, and that took me the whole day. It was hard. I really like to cut: (most likely) it is imperceptible, but there are many samples all over the place, including a recurring theme — the voice of the «Pirate Station» radio host and «I love drum and bass». I wanted to make some phrases / words cohesive and stupidly repeating. Maybe this way I’m talking to the audience... I’m really curious about what people think and how they react to certain things in music.

The process was ridiculous and I hope that’s easy to feel. I tried to make fun and diverse not to be bored in the process. I often fast forward the mixes, but in this case everything happens pretty quickly.

There are 3 of my favorite genres in this mix: breakbeat, favela and academic choral music. I’ve also wanted to combine Brazilian funk with something natively “Russian”, and I mixed it with the children's song «Комары» for fun. Just like MC Don Juan with the eternal (for me) banger from Awesome 3».
