Buildings, aged and desolate, loom like silent titans amidst the ethereal gloom. Windows, glazed with condensation, stare out into the murky void, reflecting no trace of vitality. Cobblestone paths, slick with moisture, wind through the fog, their echoes mingling with the whispers of forgotten footsteps. The air hangs heavy with the scent of decay, a palpable reminder of time's relentless march. In this realm of forsaken dreams, nature reclaims its dominion.

Legend of the Origin of Animals According to Inuit Beliefs
At the beginning of the world, according to the Inuit, there was only one man and one woman. The woman asked Kaila, the sky god, for help in populating the Earth. Kaila ordered her to dig a hole in the ice and catch fish. So, one by one, the animals emerged: seals, bears, birds… until finally the caribou appeared. This was the most precious gift, as it would feed the people, provide shelter, and provide tools.
But humans began hunting only the largest and most beautiful caribou, weakening the species. So, the woman asked for help again. Kaila sent the wolf, sent by Amarok, the wolf spirit, to eat the weak and sick animals, thus maintaining balance.
Other Key Elements of Inuit Mythology
• Animals have souls (anirniit): They are not hunted, but allow themselves to be hunted. The hunter performs a ritual for their souls to return to the spirit world.
• Death and rebirth: Part of the soul goes to heaven or hell, another part is reincarnated in a newborn if given the name of an ancestor.
• Giants and goblins: In distant lands, the Inuit encountered the Tuniqs, fearsome giants, and cheerful little goblins that fit in the palm of the hand.

Legend of Sakpata
The elders of the villages say that before there were roads, before even the trees learned to reach for the sun, the earth was a sleeping body. An immense, dark, silent body. And in its heart beat a spirit that had yet to be named.

That spirit was Sakpata.
He was born from the red dust, the damp mud, and the deep tremor that heralds life. When he opened his eyes, the earth awoke with him. Wherever he walked, roots sprouted; wherever he touched, mountains rose; wherever he breathed, the world learned to sustain itself.

But Sakpata was not only a creator. He was a guardian.
The Gift and the Burden
The other orishas jealous of his power over the earth entrusted him with a dual destiny:
to protect life and to remind humans of their fragility.

That is why Sakpata received two chests:
• In one, health, the strength that makes bodies flourish.

• In the other, disease, the shadow that compels men to respect the earth they walk upon.

Sakpata accepted both without joy or sorrow. He knew that life cannot exist without balance.

The People Who Forgot to Give Thanks
Legend tells of a time when humans prospered so much that they ceased to honor the earth. They built upon the fields without asking permission, uprooted sacred plants without a word, and forgot that every grain of dust holds a memory.

Sakpata observed in silence.

He sought not vengeance, but respect.

Then he opened the dark chest.

Disease spread like a hot wind, reminding men that life depends on that which is unseen: the soil that sustains them, the water that nourishes them, the dust they breathe.

The humans trembled. They wept. They begged.

And Sakpata, a stern but just protector, opened the other chest.

Health returned like fresh rain.

The fields bore fruit once more. The bodies rose.

Since then, Sakpata has been both loved and feared.

The guardian who listens
It is said that Sakpata still walks among the villages, disguised as an old man covered in red dust.

Sometimes he heals with a single glance.

Sometimes he lets illness teach what pride prevents one from learning.

He who honors the land, honors Sakpata.

He who harms it, awakens his shadow.
