2014 was a big year for Scott Moncrieff AKA thatmanmonkz. Not only did his own label Shadeleaf become firmly established he dropped brilliantly received releases on both Kolour LTD and here on D.O.G.
Scott has managed to tread that fine line of simultaneously picking up props from all angles and wrecking dancefloors the world over whilst remaining resolutely underground and focused on the more interesting corners of dance music. RA rightly stated that ‘Despite the pivotal part his hometown has played in electronic music history, you can't shake the feeling that if this were the work of some auteur from Detroit, Thatmanmonkz would receive wider recognition from the house community.’ And that is why we love him!
Here on his follow up to last years Don’t Slip EP, he delivers 3 lo-fi, dusty, soul- tinged nuggets which have that unique yet instantly identifiable character only the most talented producers are capable of making. Opener In The Trees featuring the vocals of Kahill Anthony who adds a soulful touch to the raw, bumping groove set up by monkz. The kind of magic track that’ll get lodged in your mind and have the heads clamoring for the info when dropped on a big system. Flip over for Make It Now which treads a more familiar loopy disco path but does so in such fine style that you’ll be coming back to this one time and time again. Finally we have Sad n Blue which drops the deepness with fizzing Detroit padz and killer vox samples giving a nod to the moody one but with a throbbing bassline straight out of the nu school. thatmanmonkz is currently holed up in his studio making tracks for his debut LP which we’re happy to announce will be dropping towards the end of this year here on Delusions.

@JaxxMadicine is a jazz-funk inspired house’ish outfit from Milan consisting of Turbojazz (Local Talk, GAMM Records), Parker Madicine (Heist, Bastard Jazz Brooklyn, CT-HI Records) and the talented jazz keyboardist ‘Veez_0’. With an organic and melodic sound collage you can hear influences from classic 70s jazz funk labels and artists like CTI, Mizell Brothers, Kudu and Bob James but also the current sounds of Kaidi Tatham, Byron The Aquarius and Harvey Sutherland. 
After their debut EP ”Montreux” they are now ready to drop their full album ”Distant Classic” where the Jaxx crew exit planet earth and treats us to a space music odyssey that is full of surprises. During the journey they deliver house, jazz, fusion, boogie and jazzy beats from a highly melodic keyboard perspective. All tracks are made with a genuine love for analogue synthesizers, fender Rhodes, clavinets and some soulful MPC programming.

The name Hugo Mari might not ring a bell just yet, but we’ve got a feeling this is about to change real soon. He’s released a handful of EP’s under his former alias Books on Omena and XVI including his own edit series on the latter label (check out his killer track ‘in the groove or his jazzy deep house collaboration with Zodiac called ‘Feel it in my Bones’). Considering he’s also remixed well known artists like afrobeat legend Dele Sosimi and grime master Trim, you might share our view of this amazingly talented and versatile producer. DJ Andy Smith returns to BBE Music with a second stunning installment of his compilation series ‘Reach Up – Disco Wonderland’, released on triple vinyl, double CD and digital formats.

“Volume 2 takes the baton from Volume 1 and runs with it” says Andy. “It brings new Disco heat, with unreleased tracks & remixes by myself, Full Intention & Nick Reach Up, Crissy Kybosh and Bad Bikini & Disco Circus. These fresh takes rub nicely alongside tried and tested original tracks from the golden age of Disco for all to enjoy.”

In the two years since the first volume of ‘Reach Up – Disco Wonderland’ was issued, Andy’s ‘Reach Up’ DJ collective have been busy with performances at festivals such as Bestival, Festival No.6 and Eastern Electrics, as well as a host of club gigs from London to Lisbon and many spots in between. Their monthly South London Soul Train residency in Peckham, London is now in its third year, while their monthly Soho Radio show has been streamed and downloaded by thousands of Disco lovers Worldwide.

Just like Volume 1 before it, Reach Up – Disco Wonderland Volume 2 takes in forgotten boogie, funk, dance-floor soul and early house gems from the 70s and 80s, as well as a few contemporary productions created with a nod to the classics. Our second release this year yet again explores the deep side genres of electronic music and deep house. The man SMBD aka Simbad has been on our wish list for quite a while now and we are super delighted that
It finally worked out to welcome him for a full release on our label after his contribution to the first Dampé Ep we did last year. After a string of releases on labels like Apron, Freerange and BBE there is not much introduction needed for this house veteran.

These five tracks range from soulful house to darker break beat material and ambient soundscapes. Especially the great title track “Purple Winds” is a beautiful emotional piece of music. The closing track “Nan Madol” for us is very reminiscent to early Detroit electronic music. “Piano Lick” and “Glory” are packed with soul, funk, disco and basically just good times on the dancefloor while the moody and acid break beat excursion “ – 8 – “ is winding deeper and deeper and deeper ...

Not much more needed to be said here, we will let the music speak and let you enjoy these excellent tunes!
