It’s been a pretty eventful year for FKOF Records, but we’re delighted to be ending it with a bang and by welcoming two brand artists to the imprint. We’ve been long-time fans of @Oddkut and @AbstraktSonance and when we discovered they’d been on the buttons together we knew it was material we wanted to home…

The release is available for pre-order from us today, and drops on general release 17th December - just in time for Christmas. You'll be able to pre-order from our friends at Unearthed Sounds (/ the rest of the retailers with the record) from Friday 10th December.

“'FKOFv007' joins the FKOF Records back catalogue as our latest collaborative release and, if it’s anything like the other collab EPs we’ve dropped, we know this one’s going to go off. The tunes on this record have been doing the rounds for a good chunk of 2021 so it’s only fitting we end the year with them as our final release…

“The aptly titled ‘Warrior Dance’ kicks our seventh record off in suitable fashion. It’s all sparse but tight percussion, floaty synths and grimey atmospherics. Next up, ‘Mystical’, is a more eyes-down affair with its rolling low end, punchy kicks and effective use of space. You’ll be unsurprised to hear it’s an effective tune on systems! The B-side turns things up to 11 with ‘Burn Babylon’, which introduces itself as a wicked stepper and morphs into something all the more aggressive for its second drop. You do not want to miss this one; raw vibes inside. Last, but definitely not least, we have ‘Bonkerz’ which brings us full circle back to the sparse beats, bass and space recipe we found on the A side. It’s stripped back to the bare minimum and packs a serious punch.

“We’ve been working on FKOFv007 since the end of 2020, and have been sat ready and waiting to release the tunes since we got the impeccable masters back from Beau at 1087 in March 2021. It’s wicked to finally have these four cuts ready to drop and we hope you enjoy this record as much as we’ve done pulling it together. Here’s hoping we see more Oddkut and Abstrakt Sonance on FKOF Records before too long!”

The fourth edition of SHDW’s flagship ‘Federation Of Rytm’ VA series has been carefully curated by the DJ/ producer and head honcho over more than a year, with close attention to detail given to sequencing. It is a balance of label regulars and debutants that represents the past, present, and future, both sonically and through the generational diversity of the artists involved. There are plenty of surprises along the way while always remaining true to the Mutual Rytm ethos and reflecting the journey of the night from start to finish, whether that's in intimate, sweaty clubs or on big festival stages.

"I’ve lived with most of these tracks for over a year, testing them on the dancefloor and fine-tuning the selection. Each comes from artists I deeply admire, making this compilation a snapshot of the label’s evolution and a glimpse of what’s next. ‘Federation Of Rytm IV’ celebrates connection across generations, while capturing the sounds that inspire me most — telling a story from start to finish.” – SHDW.

Across 30 tracks in the digital collection and 24 on four sides of wax, the release explores the full breadth of the Mutual Rytm sound. Driving grooves and relentless percussion set the pace, gradually unfolding into hypnotic and atmospheric passages that invite deeper immersion. Pulsating low-end power alternates with eerie minimalism, while bursts of futuristic energy and cavernous kick drums keep the tension high. Elsewhere, dub textures and moments of introspection provide balance, creating a narrative arc that moves fluidly between intensity and release, atmosphere and tension, darkness and light.

This summer, I ran a race in the mountains that I had been dreaming about and never thought I would accomplish. Prior to that day I asked my friends to send me a song they would have wanted me to listen to in that context. It made the moment incredible, I felt completely carried away and completely anchored at the same time. It led to some crazy coincidences too, and it simply contributed to making it one of the best days of my life.

I've wanted to do a set about running for a very long time, as it's an integral part of my artistic practice — I wanted to talk about the feeling of pure joy, creativity and freedom that one can experience while running.

When moving, the mind easily shifts from plans to memories, from memory to observation. Physical effort produces thoughts, experiences, achievements.
For me it is a state where we move from super mental and inner feel to pure, physical energy. A state in which the mind, body and world respond to each other.

I hope you will enjoy listening to this set — a subjective rendering of that moment, playing with the idea and the special pace of running, fueled by these tracks, personal references and by the emotions provoked by the movement.
