Hibernating against an already impressively tight discography,
Program has been biding its time in unleashing this next release.
With some of the genre’s most technically adept artists, the track-
listing alone is enough to grab your attention. There is a high
calibre of production standard present throughout the LP, audible
from start to finish.
Whether you become submerged by Freek’s rolling ‘Enamoured’,
accompanied by the pristine vocals of Pia Thaleia, or captured by
the apocalyptic sounds of Slang Banger’s ‘Slaughter House’, every
taste is catered for. Program sets aside its older sister label Ram and creates a breathing space, allowing it
to grow. The label is a heavyweight in its own right; this album is only reaffirms that fact.
And such a range of versatility comes with names both old and new. L 33 returns to the imprint, with
clashing bass conundrum ‘Manipulate’. Gerra & Stone also make an anticipated reappearance; their
contribution ‘Po’rdosol’ is a steppy riddim constructed through a medley of beats and sliced up sample.
But relative newcomer Elliott Mac uses the LP as a pedestal for another stellar production. The budding
artist flexes his capabilities across the soundscape of ‘Filter City’, delicately composed yet highly intricate.
It’s demonstrative of Program’s dedication to emerging artists, sifting through cyberspace to showcase some
of the best acts the underground has to offer.
So now it’s time to prepare your subs and plug in your speakers – Program have made a welcome return,
further solidifying their position as leading tastemakers with a quality ensured guarantee. It’s once again,

Technique’s annual summer compilation has become one of the highlights of the label’s release schedule and this year’s edition is no exception.

Technique Summer 2016 features 37 tracks from across the drum & bass spectrum hand picked by Drumsound & Bassline Smith.

The label bosses themselves roll through with the fluid jungle of the Solah-laced “Cover Our Eyes”, the no-holds-barred funk of “Rise of the Black Panther” and their epic dubwise collaboration with Digital, “First World Problem”.

And then there are the big name cameos from artists not normally seen under the Technique banner. Brookes Brothers and Danny Byrd team up with the uplifting drive of “Climb High”, matched in hands-in-the-air power by the euphoric piano of The Prototypes’ “Don’t Let Me Go”. J Majik recruits 78° and Louie Cabrera for “Day I Left” and “Elastic” respectively. And the mighty DJ SS drops an emotively claustrophobic killer in the form of “Expression”.

Of course, the regular regiment of Technique soldiers are present and correct too. Tantrum Desire delivers the tech atmospherics of “Tesoro”, while Kronology subverts the big-room sound with the unpredictable twists and turns of “Everyday”. L Plus backs up rumbling bass and popping beats with entwined chord patterns in “Invincible”. Plus Document One show two different sides to their character, with the jazz funk vibe of “Klaxon” and the paranoid sci-fi of “Say What”.

And we’re nowhere near covering everything this album has to offer. From the jungle tear-out of Brian Brainstorm’s “Badman Selector” to the minimal magic of Oder’s “Mesmerize”, via the liquid purity of Salaryman’s “He Knows”, this is a journey that needs to be experienced. Any selection that takes you straight from Fade’s “Disco Ball” into Conspire’s “Glare of Brass” then to Salaryman’s “Synthesized Melancholia” is making a statement about the strength in depth of the D&B genre right now.

If all that wasn’t enough, all the tracks are featured on two continuous mixes by Kronology.

The first album sampler features Drumsound & Bassline Smith’s “Rise of the Black Panther” and is available now exclusively in the Beatport store and from the Technique shop from June 10. The second sampler includes Document One’s Klaxon and you can get your hands on in from June 24 in the Technique shop. The full album is released on 1 July but you can pre-order it now on iTunes and all other stores.
