Animal Picnic & Aaryon have already made their mark in terms of stamping their strengths as a collaboration team, offering up a unique combination of flare and talent. It’s no surprise to see them come together again to bring you Steyoyoke Black’s next release. Titled Vortex, this EP delivers a total of four original tracks, each of them possessing their own imprint and presence that engages the listener with every twist and turn.

First up is ‘Vortex’, which jumps straight to the point of divulging the tracks overall foreboding vibe. The bass line is unyielding throughout the entire track and with such brazen synth riffs, Vortex seems to pursue and command your attention. Be prepared for an onslaught of power and raw vigor.

‘Particles of God’ is the second track on the EP and with its cave like echoes, underwater inflections and metallic drums, it depicts an almost aquatic industrial soundscape. The track has a fierce pulsing energy to it and a monster break down that mimics this intensity perfectly.

The third track ‘Orion’ pursues a rolling more melodic sound then any of the other tracks on the EP. Playful piano riffs are masterly crafted around flurries of snappy percussion and textured grooves. ‘Orion’ allows you to bask in its elevating melodies and distinguished charm.

‘Rhapsody’ is the fourth and last track to feature on ‘Vortex’. Arousing a sense of mystery with its cool calm attitude, this track radiates an unflinching seductive flow. Hypnotic bass and stabbing synths prod and poke, all whilst endeavouring to lead you deeper into darker territories.

MTK011 comes courtesy of Ominous, disCerN and Cari Golden. A two track EP featuring remixes from Kiki, Matt Hardinge and Cali Lanauze. Shattered is a smooth, warm textured track full of live elements that make up the Ominous sound. From the rhythmical guitar cuts, to the flowing string samples, the production floats through syncopated synth elements, all providing the platform on which the vocals of Cari Golden glide across. Remixes of Shattered come from Kiki and Matt Hardinge. Kiki has taken the track up in tempo, offering a mix for peak time sets. Look out for the cut up vocals adding texture and variety to the base tech elements of this remix. Matt Hardinge brings a more driving feel, towards the deep techno side. Over a strong 8th note bass line and pad section, the production is covered with subtle effect elements and a variety of interest points, most notably the spacious live drums. The second original track on this EP is Ethernal Quest, this time Ominous teaming up with disCerN. A sharper and more upfront track, with a punchier bass line and edgier synth textures, very much in contrast to Shattered. On the remix here is Cali Lanauze with his 5am take. As the name would suggest, Cali has created a track for the later hours, dark and deep with a lot of energy. Vocal and industrial percussive elements can be picked out from the rolling bass line and strong pad sections to create a strong hypnotic feel.

Cultured house and techno label Kindisch enlists Brooklyn duo Bedouin to present their own entrancing sonic apparition on the latest Kindisch Stories compilation. It was conceived in Tulum, Mexico earlier in the year and draws together 11 original tracks all commission by the label to focus on the listening —rather than dance floor—experience.
Kindisch has been setting its own agenda for ten years now. In that time it has put out 100 releases from the likes of Einzelkind, Samim, Jay Haze, Raz Ohara and more, and offers timeless and constantly evolving music that isn't necessarily always designed for the ‘floor. Bedouin, meanwhile, create their own idiosyncratic melodies and rhythms for labels such as this one as well as CityFox. They have an eclectic vi- sion that pulls from diverse influences owing to their Middle Eastern heritage, West- ern upbringing and worldly travels.
Here they stray far into the desert and return home with a naturally elegant sound that reflects the duo’s wide musical remit. In Bedouin’s words, “each piece of music gathered, turned out to be a gem that represented a different corner of the world. Each was special in its own way, but all together they organically fit like one beautiful mosaic.”
Starting with their own enchanting passage of deep and absorbing atmospherics, this is a masterfully paced mix that slowly but surely builds without ever getting sweaty. Always supple and heartfelt, tracks like Feathered Sun - ‘Get On’ and ‘Bufo’ from the Brooklynites themselves (one of three original offerings from them) keep things lan- guorous and romantic throughout.
As the mix rolls on, organic piano keys and rubbery synths from Viken Arman and Satori are paired with ever more upright drums, but never do things feel hurried. The second half remains deep and woozy thanks to cuts from LUM, Oceanvs Orientalis and YokoO, with hints of middle eastern melody and widescreen chords, tender vocal wails and romantic late night sax lines all soothing the soul as the grooves slowly se- duce your body.
With this release, Bedouin craft a marvellous mix that sits as well on an early morning dance floor as it does in the headphones at home.

Mihai Popoviciu (@mihai-popoviciu-1) has carved out a reputation for being one of the most innovative producers of electronic music active in Europe today. The man from Romania has established himself both as a highly respected producer - releasing on labels such as Highgrade, International Gigolo and Dessous - and as a killer DJ performing all over the world. 'Fiction' is his 4th release on Poker Flat Recordings, and delivers four distinct avours to sink your teeth into.

I Should' is a slinky groover, with a slippery, evolving bassline, tight, funky percussion and a sultry female vocal. Working just as effectively early in a set as a peak time moment, it’s bound to get rinsed in the coming months.

'Twisted' is a little harder - a straighter beat signals a more heads down approach, and the bassline is sure to trigger some dancefloor scenes wherever it gets played.

Next up is title track 'Fiction' which perhaps makes a reference to Mihai’s background, with fragments of Eastern European melodies woven into the beautiful synth work, all tied together over a spacey yet driving rhythm track.

Last but by no means least is 'Interconnected' - a straight up deep bomb with echoes of classic Chicago deep and acidic house in its warm and sensual vibe.

Being the relatively new guy on the scene, doesn’t mean much with Modd, having placed himself in a valuable position after releasing music on labels such as Anjunadeep & Kindisch, his productions are a breadth apart from most, favouring the euphoric and hazy washes of electronic music… each piece is a lull to another world.

With the Mensarda EP we’re given two original and all new tracks to boom out on those hot summer days where moments are magic: Mensarda and Kioki. Choose your poison wisely then, from the slow dripping tribal infused Mensarda that oozes warm tones, to the heightening Kioki where upbeat and vibrant undertones play melancholy with the rhythm.

There is a distinct vibe that Modd’s music provides, that we certainly are attached to, and it’s clear there is plenty more to come from the young upstart, so when these drop, we know there will be some blissful times on the dancefloor…

The 28th Chapter sees Djuma Soundsystem team up with Westerby for our latest story in sound: the cosmic afro tech of ‘Disambigua’.

Now based in Copenhagen, Norwegian artist Djuma Soundsystem was catapulted into the public's consciousness over a decade ago with his club classic 'Les Djinns' on Get Physical Music. His organic, sample-heavy signature sound is the perfect combination with fellow Copenhagen artist Westerby’s rougher, analogue synths and techy edges.

‘Disambigua’, their much-anticipated follow up to smash hit ‘Koma Kobache’ (Get Physical), is a standout cut which is already turning heads on dancefloors across Europe with its dark groove and killer vocal hook.

Rising star Jonathan Kaspar (Objektivity, Pets Recordings) is first up on the Editions, where he takes things deep. Built around the interplay of synth lines in call and response, his rework is a pure bass monster.

Meanwhile, label regular KatrinKa marks her latest release on Chapter 24 with an Edition that places the emphasis on a trademark infectious groove, paired with a spiritual melodic motif; a perfect balance of darkness and light.

The package is rounded out by Aaaron. The in-demand producer has worked with everyone from Defected and Get Physical to (more recently) Connected and Yoshitoshi. He focuses on deep, powerful drums in a version heavy on tension.

With this latest Chapter there can be no doubt: four different flavours of ‘Disambigua’ which together add up to a clear and coherent whole.
