'Storm' is the debut release of Melbourne based project SAATSUMA. This track is the first taste of their upcoming EP, which is set to be released early 2016.

SAATSUMA was birthed via a studio collaboration between Memphis Kelly, Joel Ma and Cesar Rodrigues over 2015. The result was a merging of each of the individuals’ styles and influences to create a collection of ambient electronic songs. The project is being mixed by Declan Kelly.

Their music is driven by elements of hip hop, house & neo-soul, drawing inspiration from artists like FKA twigs, James Blake, Little Dragon to J-Dilla and Flying Lotus.

On stage SAATSUMA are a five-piece live band featuring analog synths, layered vocals, guitar, bass, drums & live samples.

SAATSUMA, based in Melbourne Australia, is the collaboration of Memphis Kelly & Cesar Rodrigues. The genesis of the project was a studio based collaboration between the pair and Joel Ma, and the result was a merging of each of the individuals’ styles and influences to create unique electronic music driven by traditional song-writing.

On stage SAATSUMA are a five-piece live act, fronted by songwriter and producer Memphis Kelly and joined by Cesar Rodrigues, Maddy Kelly, Lachlan Stuckey and Andrew Congues. Their captivating live show features analog synths, layered vocals, guitar, drums and live samples.

SAATSUMA have already released 2 songs in 2016, “Storm” & “Floating”, selling out both launch shows in Melbourne and will release their debut EP in the last quarter of 2016, mixed by Melbourne DJ & producer Declan Kelly (aka Dream Kit). The band have just been announced on the Big Sound, Melbourne Music Week, and Paradise line ups as well as a national tour supporting Yeo.

Melbourne electronic project SAATSUMA share their first single of 2017 Isolate.

A collaboration between Memphis Kelly and Cesar Rodrigues, Isolate explores the destructive nature of complacency, and the notion that disengaging from the issues around us will only lead to further decline. Mixed by Dream Kit (Declan Kelly) and mastered by Adam Dempsey. Isolate is the first taste of SAATSUMA’s debut album to be released later this year.

Isolate is SAATSUMA’s third single release following up from Storm and Floating, both of which received praise from local and international tastemakers such as The 405, Acclaim, Broadsheet and features from triple j, 3RRR, FBi Radio including live performances at PBS Studio 5 and Balcony TV.

2016 saw SAATSUMA share stages with Olympia, Dorsal Fins, Vera Blue and Yeo, and showcases at BIGSOUND, Melbourne Music Week and Paradise Music Festival.

Written and produced by Memphis Kelly and Cesar Rodrigues, Stay explores the irrationality of desire and the process of losing yourself in a fight to obtain the unattainable. The track is mixed by Dream Kit (Declan Kelly) and mastered by Lachlan Carrick. 

Stay follows on from Isolate, which received much loved support from local and international tastemakers and key radio including triple j, 3RRR, PBS and FBi Radio as well as triple j Unearthed Feature Artist.
2017 has seen the project perform at St Kilda Festival, The Hills Are Alive and supporting Pnau. On stage, SAATSUMA is fronted by Memphis Kelly and joined by Cesar Rodrigues, Maddy Kelly, Lachlan Stuckey and Andrew Congues. 

The band will showcase their live show for The Push New Slang on July 7. In addition, SAATSUMA are curating an event at SPURS on July 9 which will include an exclusive first listen of their debut album, a full band live performance and guest DJ’s, as well as an art gallery space displaying selected artworks by Ajay Jennings.

Captivating Melbourne two-piece SAATSUMA share more of their brimming reserve with the announcement of an impressive debut album, Overflow, set for release September 1st. Shimmering alongside is the news of an album launch and a lunar inspired single from the record, 'Crescent' which received a first spin with Zan Rowe on triple j Sunday night and premiered online via Red Bull Music yesterday. 

An enigmatic electronic duo composed of Memphis Kelly and Cesar Rodrigues, SAATSUMA's latest offering shines a light on their pair's production and lyrical dexterity. Combining trademark smouldering vocals, infectious beats, warped synth and throbbing bass with entrancing melancholy, their latest single, ‘Crescent' represents the new and future SAATSUMA.

The track reflects on the impact of the moon on human behaviour. Vocalist Memphis Kelly says 'Crescent' gives light to "Our deep connection to the land that we’re often so unaware of…We’re often so resistant to work on and better ourselves, that we ultimately miss out on exploring this deeper sense of belonging, wholeness and true self-awareness," she says. 

SAATSUMA also announce the release of their debut album, Overflow, which sees the duo emerge with a cultivated sound well beyond their years. SAATSUMA's debut follows the success of 2016 releases 'Floating' and 'Storm' - the former finding itself on triple j rotation and gaining the duo recognition for their unique soundscapes and electronic production. Written and produced by Memphis and Cesar, mixed by Dream Kit (Declan Kelly) and mastered by Lachlan Carrick, Overflow is a vessel filled to the brim. Named Overflow in continuity of a motif that runs throughout their body of work, Memphis Kelly says, "'Overflow continues the recurring theme of water, following on from our debut singles Storm and Floating. Water has always been present in my songwriting - it’s an element I am constantly drawn back to...Our connection to and interaction with the natural environment. The fragility and fluctuation of relationships," she says. It's a nine track float on an imaginary SAATSUMA stream; from the comedown of 'Feel It All'; drifting to a rejection of ignorance, 'Isolate'; floating towards a notion of wanting what you can't have, 'Stay' and the pull of the moon, 'Crescent'.
