Her og nå (Here And Now)

Tanka is a Japanese form of poetry that translates to 'short poem' or 'short song'. It consists of 31 syllables in 5 lines. In my vocal work, I have chosen 2 separate tankas with a similar mood, written by Yamamoto Ryōkan (1758-1831). The text is translated into English.

TANKA

"Miglains" (from Latvian - Foggy) is a part of the collaboration project "Krysninger" where 3 composers - me, Anders Tveit and Roger Arve Vigulf has chosen to write about 3 aggregate states of water. 
Written for flute, clarinet and violin in 2023. Performed by "Ensemble KammerKlang" trio.

Take a Minute

Composed in 2007. An arrangement of Latvian folk song. The story is humorous about a lazy girl who doesn't make her dowry for her future marriage. This song was recorded by Latvian mixed choir Sola and officially released in 2008

The Dowry Song (Pūra dziesma)

Composed in 2010. Original music with Latvian folk song text about a brother who goes to war and never comes back and a sister who is letting him go with a tears in her eyes. 

Kā tu raudi? (Why Do You Cry?)

Composed in 2007. The 2nd prize winner in the new composers competition for Latvian Radio Choir. Lyrics - Latin sacred text. Timor et tremor from Latin means "fear and trembling".

Timor et tremor

Composed in 2010. For double bass and piatto performed by one musician.
Selected for festival Ung Nordisk Musikk 2011 and performed in Danmark, Kopenhagen.
Selected for festival ISCM World Music Days 2013 and performed in Slovakia, Bratislava.

Monologue

Composed in 2011 for string orchestra. 
A year later selected for a music festival Ung Nordisk Musikk 2012 where the composition was performed in Iceland, Reykjavik.

Composed in 2007 for mezzo-soprano and piano. 
Recorded and released in  2009.

Written in 2017. Inspired by Norway's nature. Waking up in a sunrise next to the mountains...swimming between the mountains... driving in the mountains...climbing mountains...watching mountains...loving mountains...finding peace.

This composition is inspired by a cave of gigantic selenite crystals in Mexico Nica town.
