Only a few years ago an unknown producer released his inaugural track which flew up the Resident Advisor and Beatport charts, something usually done by an experienced producer under a fresh alias. Sable Sheep however cut his teeth in the heavy metal scene and his heavy percussive house pays tribute to the likes of Slipknot and Bury Your Dead. In a mere two years the German newcomer has played major events including Barcelona’s Sonar and ADE in the Netherlands. His work has been championed by the likes of Marco Carola, Matthias Tanzmann, Luciano and Loco Dice as well as emerging on the catalogues of Moon Harbour, Be As One, Defected and now the latter’s sub-imprint DFTD with this release. ‘Constitution EP’ employs the energetic tactics increasingly associated with the German’s work and the title track is an avid demonstration by layering a groovy hook, soulful lyrics and looped wailing vocals

Sable Sheep has fast become one of Moon Harbour’s most integral family members thanks to his fresh tech house perspective. Here he returns with another hot new EP that also features a vinyl re-release of ‘Upon Burning Skies’, which proved to be something of a hit on dancefloors across the world this summer gone. Buyers of a digital persuasion will also be treated to a Dan Drastic remix of Sable Sheep & Fosky’s ‘Barricades Of Nowhere.’

Despite being on a constant and busy tour of top clubs and festivals across Europe, German Sable Sheep has still managed to come up with the goods. On ‘Cargo Room’, a jostling, loopy bit of slinky tech house with warm paddy kick drums and a sensually teasing vocal snippet that stretches between the beats. The poly-rhythmic effect is hugely infectious before ‘The Forgotten Ones’ goes for a much creepier, weirder vibe. This one is all suggestive and shadowy, with occult synth dots and alien life forms all existing above a beautifully elastic bassline. It breaks and kicks again at various points and it’s sure to have attentive dancefloors in raptures, locked on to every rotation.

‘Barricades Of Nowhere’ is a collab with rising Argentinian Fosky, who has released on Crosstown and Desolat before now. This one spits out metal snares, has an urgent alarm-like hook and picks up the pace with its bouncy techno leaning beats and big hi hat ringlets. Physical but warm and organic it’s perfect dancing music before the re-release of last track ‘Upon Burning Skies’ – the hard hitting anthem complete with dark but soulful African murmurings that has made Sable Sheep such a recognised producer the world over.

German hot shot SABLE SHEEP is next up on the famed DESOLAT X Series bursting onto the seen in 2011 with releases on Moon Harbour, Be As One, and Defected Records sub-label DFTD, Sable Sheep has quickly positioned himself at the forefront of the new breed of electronic music producers. Hailing from Germany, Sable Sheep is one of the finest purveyors of dance-floor orientated underground sounds and it is with great pleasure that we see him release the Vagabond EP on the Desolat X series this May. 'Fallen Lead Showers' kicks off the EP with aplomb. Here Sable Sheep infuses a distinctive tech-infused psychedelic quality into the track from the beginning, which develops until a classic sample comes in alongside well-placed percussion flourishes which are sure to send the dancefloor into raptures. German producer Sable Sheep has so far layered up his propulsive drums on two releases for Be As One, but here makes his debut on Moon Harbour with a new four track EP that certainly lives up to its name.

The EP kicks off with “Hell Is Empty” which is a deep, shuffling track that marries an undulating bassline to bubbly finger clicks and feathery light, almost dusty hi hats with the resultant effect one of seductive hypnosis as it subtly breakdown before beginning its march once again.

“Myrrh And Blood” is more upright, with larger kick drums driving the thing along. Again the hi hats are airy and light, giving the groove plenty of character and adding to its bounce, with a precise bassline weaving its way through the whole track start to finish as the snares grow choppy and a spoken word monologue adds an element of human foreboding.

The title track shows a lighter side with a jazzy melody darting about over kicks and hats that come together in a funky but heavyweight union, whilst closer “All The Devils Are Here” returns to the shadows, lurking with intent. The bassline is rubbery, the claps sound deliciously hollow and the bouncing groove is pure and unadulterated; one that will have heads going down and arms going up.

Sable Sheep is a master of efficiency who can craft infectious and devastating grooves from only the simplest of elements: it’s the way he designs them, though, that really makes him standout.

Having become a member of the Moon Harbour agency and label family recently, Germany’s mysterious Sable Sheep is back with a new four track EP that continues to explore his trademark tribal tinged tech house sound with great panache.  Sable Sheep is no stranger to success given the widespread deployment of his previous tracks like ‘Painting My Fur’, and that’s a good job, because all of his latest missives are sure-fire dancefloor dynamite.

Upon Burning Skies is the opening track, and one that builds and builds in tension to an invisible peak that will have ravers on the edge of their feet as the tribal male chanting acts like a call to action above bouncing, buoyant kick drums and slick percussive details.  A dub version is also included in the package.

Torn To Pieces is another full-blooded groove that will lock you in from the very first rubbery kick and silvery hi hat ringlet. As they roll on next to each other without any friction at all, a knotted bassline and deft little synth stabs add some detail as a warm wind seems to howl in the background. Its stripped back but fills the airwaves and is the sort of physical track its impossible not to get carried away by.

Finally, Thy Suffer is another warm concoction of sound that Sable Sheep fills with rattling drum hits and sandy shakers. Some twitching alien sounds suggest the presence of life amongst the machines and the deep looping kicks help draw you in.

An EP produced with great precision restraint, Sable Sheep knows just how much to add into the without over doing things or allowing things to get stuck in a rut – it’s a perfect balancing act that is designed for maximum impact on the dancefloor.

Sable Sheep is the relatively new musical incarnation of a German artist with years of experience.
It was his releases with Be As One Imprint and being part of the Moon Harbour booking agency that put Tillman on the radar of Loco Dice, who signed him to the Desolat roaster.

Heavily influenced by metal music (Tillman is the frontman and singer in a metal band),he might be a rare thing in the electronic world but his straight and groove driven productions are forever ramping up acclaim with Desolat releasing his stellar Vagabond From Hell EP just this past year. 

What's most remarkable is how a character with such an unknown background managed to emerge from the shadows in late 2011 and then has been snapped up by three ground-breaking modern day labels and is enjoying an ever increasing fan base all around the world.
