Nirvana Shatakam is one of the rare stotras composed by Adi Shankaracharya (Adi Sankara Bhagawat Pada 8th Century). In this beautiful stotra Adi Sanka identifies himself with Lord Shiva and there by explains his philosophy of Oneness or non dualism. Shatakam is a Sanskrit word which literally means Six and the Nirvana Shatkam Sloka comprises of Six Stanzas. Nirvanasatakam Stotram repeats the word “Shivoham” which literally means “I am Shiva”.

‘Mahārāja Parīkṣit attained the highest perfection, shelter at Lord Kṛṣṇa’s lotus feet, simply by hearing about Lord Viṣṇu. Śukadeva Gosvāmī attained perfection simply by reciting Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. Prahlāda Mahārāja attained perfection by remembering the Lord. The goddess of fortune attained perfection by massaging the transcendental legs of Mahā-Viṣṇu. Mahārāja Pṛthu attained perfection by worshiping the Deity, and Akrūra attained perfection by offering prayers unto the Lord. Vajrāṅgajī [Hanumān] attained perfection by rendering service to Lord Rāmacandra, and Arjuna attained perfection simply by being Kṛṣṇa’s friend. The Rudrashtakam (Sanskrit: रुद्राष्टकम, Rudrāṣṭakam) is a Sanskrit composition in devotion of Rudra, composed by the Hindu Bhakti poet Tulsidas (Sanskrit: तुलसीदास). Tulsidas composed in the late fifteenth century in Uttar Pradesh in India and created many other literary pieces including the magnum opus Ram Charit Manas.

The devotional hymn "Rudrashtakam" appears in the Uttara Kand of the celebrated Ram Charit Manas, where Lomash Rishi composed the hymn to propitiate Lord Shiva. His main purpose was to set his pupil free from the curse of Shiva. He succeeded and asked also a second boon (devotion for himself). His pupil would be the bird ' Kaga-Bhusundi' in a next life, a devotee of Shri Rama and an excellent teller of the life story of Shri Rama.

The Ashtakam is in reverence to Rudra, though the context pertains to the Shiva, the post-Vedic transformation of Rudra. It is arguable that the distinction between Rudra and Shiva was already lost by the time of Tulsidas.

The Rudrashtakam is lucid and simple in style and plays an instrumental role in the Shaiva traditions.

Adi Shankara emphasizes the importance of devotion for God as a means to spiritual development and to liberation from the cycle of birth and death. The prayer leaves one in no doubt that the renunciation of our egotistical differences and surrender to God makes for salvation. Many scholars hold that this composition encapsulates with both brevity and simplicity the substance of all Vedantic thought found in whatever other works that Adi Shankara wrote.

~Navaratri Sadhana~

Celebrations at Linga Bhairavi ensure that everyone is able to make use of the support that nature offers. For those who wish to connect with Devi, Sadhguru has offered a simple but powerful Navaratri sadhana for all, to experience Devi’s Grace at home. The sadhana is to be practiced on each of the days starting from (2015)October 13 to 21, by doing the following:

-*-Light a lamp for Devi.
-*-Chant a minimum of three cycles of the “Jai Bhairavi Devi” stuthi in front of a photo of Devi, Linga Bhairavi Gudi, Linga Bhairavi Yantra or Avighna Yantra. It is advisable to chant eleven cycles. (One cycle is the recitation of all 33 names of Devi, as listed below).
-*-Make an offering. There are no restrictions on what can be offered.

The sadhana can be done at any time of the day or night and can be done by all. There are no dietary restrictions, though it is preferable to have sattvic food as is customary during the festival. The sadhana can be done along with other traditional celebrations.
