“Blunderbuss” is the newest single from Safari Room, detailing the push and pull of hook-up culture and learning what we all want through brief encounters. Amidst dance beats and driving guitars, “Blunderbuss” discusses the alluring nature of going home with someone at the end of the night. But it then begs the questions: Is it the right call or is it just temporarily filling a void? Is it all going to blow up in my face?

“Phantom Limb” is about the search for identity when an integral part of ourselves is ripped away, leaving us to fill in the void with new definitions of self. In recent years, there has been a cultural shift in trying to find out who we are after so much of our lives has been altered. People are clinging to personality tests, astrology and online quizzes trying to identify parts themselves. “Phantom Limb” speaks to that loneliness of that search and offers an extended hand to say you’re not alone in pathways of self-discovery.

Quite plainly, “Broken Things” is about the declination of a relationship. The song is an amalgamation of relationships songwriter, Koukol, had crumble over the last few years. All painful and confusing, tricky and emotional. Too often we’re told to stuff our feelings down and compartmentalize, but this song is a catharsis and outburst of emotions kept in for too long. It’s a whole journey of self-discovery through loss of a relationship, confined in one tune.

"One Day Here" is the newest single from Nashville indie rock band, Safari Room. The song depicts the joy of someone coming into your life only for them to be taken away. The bittersweet of times you'd spent mixed with the times you can't repeat.

Safari Room is the indie rock outfit and brainchild of Alec Koukol (Omaha-native, now Nashville-local). The new album 'Time Devours All Things' out February 23rd. 

“We’re not that different you and me,” Alec Koukol repeats throughout the swelling bridge of “Garden Talker,” and that line might as well be a mission statement for Safari Room. Koukol describes “human connection as a founding cornerstone” as the project’s ethos, and that message is a through-line for Safari Room’s entire discography so far. The band is known, particularly in Nashville, for their special brand of indie rock, their live shows and the sense of community that comes from singing Safari Room’s songs together. That’s Safari Room’s hope, and that’s what they’re going for on their as-yet-untitled third LP.
