Evil Eye Recordings, a label born and based in Beirut, Lebanon, specializes in forms of Melodic Techno, Organica and Afro house. 
A little story time. Why is it called evil eye? No, there’s nothing evil about it. Yes, there’s definitely something mystical instead. The power that a shared belief can hold, one where intention and feelings are able to transcend the spiritual into the physical and ultimately touch you. That’s what it’s about. Taking that positive energy, channeling it through music, and sharing the beauty behind the myth, in a modern and relatable way. Every song becomes a talisman in itself, protecting you, feeding you, nurturing you. 

That leads us to Evil Eye releasing its first artist compilation, called Kindred Spirits, which showcases and finally gives much-deserved attention to Lebanese talent. A collection of songs that relate to each other yet stand apart, that encapsulate magic yet remain real, that hold on to heritage yet exist in today. Most of all, Evil Eye aims to transcend culture and time by mixing mediums and sounds, people and places.

A trio of Belgian artists Samm (BE), MAXI MERAKI and Marlin step up to Get Physical Music to remix Copyright ft. Shovell's sublime cut 'Kama Yeah.'

The original record came out on Defected in 2011 and now gets a fresh and contemporary update that puts it at the forefront of the current Afro-house sound. Providing the magic are three innovative artists starting with Samm. His music has found favour with Keinemusik, Pablo Fierro and Themba and he co-founded the Magnifik label, which has hosted its own stage at Extrema Outdoor. At the same time, he has played epic festivals like Tomorrowland. MAXI MERAKI is just as essential and has made waves since 2019 with several Beatport chart hits on labels like Spinnin' Deep, Abracadabra, Monaberry and Artbat's UPPERGROUND. Last of all is Marlin, a complete newcomer making his debut here but one that gets him off to a fantastic start.

In the able hands of these remixers, the deeply atmospheric 'Kama Yeah' becomes a languid and inviting groove warmed through by soulful pads. The Afro-tinged sounds are detailed with gentle hits and a steely determination in the tribal chants. It's a spiritual and rousing sound that will captivate any dance floor.

This is the sort of immersive groove that will make its mark on dance floors everywhere.
