Alright. This one's a big one.

Maybe it's because I just turned a year older, maybe it's the unavoidable quarter-life existential crisis phase I think I may be in, maybe it's because the universe and the vast unknown (yeah I get deep), but recently I've found myself listening to more and more emotional electronic music. Like.... I started listening to songs with WORDS in them for the first time in years! So the theme I decided to go with for my seventh (?!?!) techno playlist is emotive dark electro and techno. I hope you listen to it and force yourself to feel something new with these sounds.

The EP features remixes by El Fulminador, Tarmac and Chica Andina, flowing from rhythmic experimental music to slow techno jams and dubby chords with a dark reggaeton touch. The lyrics are inspired by an old German riddle.

Utopyk & El Fulminador are a duo from Spain and Argentina based in Berlin. Their music merges dark electronic beats with vocals in Spanish, German and English.

RANDJO EP / RELEASE DATE OCTOBER 28 / BNR (NEST HQ premiere)
Absolutely menacing acid from Bordeaux’s Djedjotronic in a new two track EP "RANDJO," joined by labelmate Cardopusher and Defekt. Following his haunting “Strapon” EP earlier this year, "RANDJO" proves it wasn’t an isolated excursion into darkness- in fact this could be Djedjo at his darkest. Summer is over, the temperature is dropping, the nights are getting longer, and it might damn well be believable that its all this release’s fault.
Most are unaware that Al Jourgensen of Ministry, in their pre-guitar days, worked in the same studio as many of Chicago’s early house greats- that studio was TRAX- and you can almost imagine them collaborating when listening to Phuture “Acid Tracks” or Rude Boy Farley Keith’s “Give Yourself to Me.” Djedjo x Cardopusher's "RANDJO" comes from this imaginary (or not?) pairing, with a spoken word house-is-a-feeling type sample echoing over some proper EBM analogue muscle and hate. Machine gun reverberated kick drums and crushed swooshes cement the industrial influence, pun intended, resulting in a track sure to top playlists of timeless dark acid. Djedjo X Defekt's "LANCE" continues this house-industrial exploration, but this time with a relentless single note arpeggiator that morphs and twists throughout the track, hypnotizing the dance floor, using it’s redundancy to build tension until it peaks with delirious detuning synths and electro pattern drums. Jorgensen and the Chicago house guys perhaps never did end up working together, but Djedjotronic, Cardopusher, and Defekt did-- with very worthy results.

Keys in the ignition, no turning back: Dubfire and Miss Kittin are about to take us on another late night road trip. And this time there are two very special ways to ‘Ride’… Plotting new routes from where they last dropped us off in 2014 with ‘Exit’, and presented in Miss Kittin’s own artwork, the two long term friends and musical kindred spirits cover a side each with two version journeys you’ll never forget. Kittin jumps straight on the autobahn in a tank-shaped techno hummer. Thumping the tarmac down with every gas-guzzling kickdrum, lights blur and trace and the mission gathers momentum as we cruise almost majestically into a brighter unknown. Dubfire brings us back home via the trusty widescreen house plains. Roads running parallel with the grand, emotional highways he once took as Deep Dish; the vanishing point is far on the horizon where a vast sky of twinkling stars opens up with a feeling you could ride for days on end. Unhurried, restrained and timelessly crisp and futuristic: trips like this don’t come about very often… The keys are in the ignition, care to take a ‘Ride?’

Next up on Calypso, Aristidez takes us on journey dipped in Peruvian culture through the streets of his hometown of Lima.

Rumbling tribal percussions and ricocheting vocals, harmony and rhythm, light and darkness all come together with the chaos and spirituality of the country which permeate the tracks. “Nada Nada” is the kind of mantra that gets people through the morning in cities of grey and clouds, “Reyerta” is a nod to the rough conditions of Latin American cities going through hard times and the third original track “Evoca” is a blend of the two, the rupture point where peace and violence meet in a cathartic release of energy.

On the other side of the planet, russian jokesters Simple Symmetry amp the tempo up with their remix of “Nada Nada”, prodding at the unanswerable with their question: what happens after death?

Aristidez is the co-founder and curator of the much loved Casalocasa parties which have brought the likes of Matias Aguayo, Hunee, Ron Morelli, Kim Ann Foxman, Jacques Renault, Manfredas, Thomas Von Party, Hugo Capablanca, Fabrizio Mammarella and many more to Lima since 2012.

With Casalocasa, Aristidez has emerged as an important figure in the Lima scene. An increasingly busy touring schedule has seen him perform across Latin America, in the like of Videoclub in Bogota, Calle 9+1 in Medellin and Mono or M.N. Roy in Mexico City. His remixing skills have been called upon by Markus Gibb and his productions have landed on Mexican label Disque Discos, Peruvian imprint Discos Aquelarre and a Café del Mar compilation.

Having discovered electronic music at the end of the 90’s, @thomassjackson grew up going to raves where trance was one of the main styles played at this massive partys. The influence it had on him was planted deeply into his DNA and this EP is the interpretation he has these days of the genre. He moved on to different pastures soon after but the style was already in him. 
Thomass now takes the old fashioned elements he still likes and takes them to new directions. Fueled by gated chords, dreamy arpeggios, trippy vocals and percussions this tracks are destined to take you back into the past and bring you right back to the present.

Darkness, “the polar opposite of brightness, is understood as a lack of illumination or an absence of visible light. Human vision is unable to distinguish colour in conditions of either high brightness or high darkness. In conditions with insufficient light levels, colour perception ranges from achromatic to ultimately black. The emotional response to darkness has generated metaphorical usages of the term in many cultures”. And when it comes to music, dark vibes, like the new work of Braulio Renteria, create an intense and deep experience, forged with ominous pads, grisly FXs, grim synth lines and macabre percussions.

This is the third time the young and promising Mexican DJ and producer “Braulitro” appears on our platform: First with the review of his debut as a producer released on the impressive project Sinchi Collective; second with a powerful and exclusive mixtape in which he allowed us to take a small peek into the universe of his many music influences (SXDNS120). This time, he partners up with another Mexican talent: Luis Fernando Hernandez aka Ludviq, who contributed with an outstanding (and, yes, obscure) remix for the title track Advertencia and is also the founder of Bonkers Records, a label focused on sharing the work of the next generation of producers not only from Mexico but also the world.
