We must constantly remind ourselves, especially in the face of rejection or the sting of missed opportunity, that sometimes in life, with every undesirable circumstance comes the promise of growth, appreciation and a more beautiful path on which to walk. 

This mix is the start of something beautiful where only love and hope are deep within us. In a world as cruel as ours, what we have left is Nature. Niki Sadeki is a self-taught, high-spirited creative, emboldened by the ideas, minds and sounds scattered in her midst. At the core of it all, a desire to connect people – be it through rhythm, events, or materializing projects. Whether DJ, radio host, event organizer, label collaborator, curator and producer, Niki moves along with spontaneity, and a get things done ethos.  
As a DJ, she’s gradually amplified a signature sound fluidly grounded in deep, progressive, up and downtempo ranges. What carries her sets has less to do with genre and more to do with isolating a mood, and building up different currents around it. Her love for selecting and spreading these moods has seen her found Deep House Vancouver, join the Quetame label ranks, host the Allure show on Frisky Radio, and produce sets for channels around the world, sprinkling the pages of United We Stream, trndmsk, Deep House London and Balance Series. Niki also curates Souq Record’s glistening annual compilation, Mirror for the Sun.
From her days expressing herself on the guitar, raiding her parents’ records, and exploring the worlds of grunge, jazz or psychedelic rock, and traditional Persian music, she’s carried over the knack for complementing dark and light frequencies, gliding in between without shying away from diving in. 
Niki travels with a spring in her steps, leaving her mark at spaces like Fusion Festival, Kater Blau, Village Underground London, Shelter Amsterdam, Woomoon Ibiza and Storytellers Tulum, The Cityfox Experience, Do Not Sit on the Furniture, and regularly at Gorg-O-Mish in her native Vancouver, where mountains, ocean and city converge. Her down to earth and steady love for sound has shaped a willingness to always adapt to the situation at hand, making the best out of it on a musical and a human level.

BIOGRAPHY 
The modern era of music has given us enigmas and artists of all shapes and forms who break the norm in unexpected ways. baez is one such artist who epitomizes the essence of the times. A multi-talented DJ and producer born in New Jersey, raised in the Dominican Republic, and currently based in Miami, FL, baez is creating music that pushes the envelope, igniting emotions and musical nuances that stretch the human imagination to its very limit. 

Born Jason Baez, his love for collecting electronic music quickly turned into more than just a passion and became a full-on career. He was named Miami's Best DJ in 2013 by Miami New Times, which characterized him as “the hardest-working DJ in Miami.” baez also held a residency at the legendary venue, The Electric Pickle, served as a former partner in NYC-based promoter and talent agency, Bespoke Musik, and currently hosts his Fordel podcast series on FriskyRadio’s groundbreaking electronic music internet radio and DJ mix subscription service. His DJ sets take audiences on a journey, providing a deeper message through music. His exceptional programming skills interweave the sounds to create an immersive experience that transcends the ordinary. He is one of those artists with the rare ability to tell a story with music. 

baez has played in many countries around the world and has shared the DJ booth with some of the biggest names in the industry, such as Bedouin, Maceo Plex, Damian Lazarus, DJ Tennis, and Jamie Jones, just to name a few. He has also made waves with releases under major labels such as Nie Wieder Schlafen, Magician on Duty, Constant Circles, and LNDKHN. His remix of Urmet K & The Lazarusman’s “The Meeting,” released with Magician on Duty, peaked at #8 on Beatport’s Top 100 Deep House Chart, received a lot of plaudits from industry experts, and garnered widespread support from top DJs. 

In 2020, he co-founded the record label Minds Alike with Samihe. They are cultivating a community of like-minded artists who share a similar acoustic expression within the electronic music space. The label is already gaining traction, with multiple releases all charting on Beatport’s Top 100. 

With his rich musical knowledge, baez plays sets and produces music that spans multiple genres. His style features an amalgamation of sounds that comprise a uniquely constructed piece of musical artistry. His sound exhibits his versatility and prowess as a producer and a DJ, and it will surely cement his storytelling style, showcasing the varied expressions of his musical ideas and artistic craft. This is the music that will push the boundaries of our perception and inspire and drive us to introspective conversations.

Based out of Chicago, Michael aka Mosey has played various instruments and styles of music his entire life starting with clarinet and guitar. He first acquired his taste for electronic music and specifically deep house while living in Madrid, Spain. As a lover for all things featuring melody and groove, he began DJing and experimenting with production. Since returning from Spain, he has been DJing around Chicago at venues such as Spybar and other underground events with his friends at Rituals. He's made an effort to bring more organic sounds to the Chicago scene by hosting parties with headline acts such as Robbie Akbal, Squire and Viktop. His new moniker, "Mosey" marks a new phase of musical journey focusing on production as much as DJing if not more. Keep an eye on his pages for news on forthcoming music and mixes. No matter if playing live or compiling a mix, Floloco, or Florian with his real name, strives to create something whole. The result is hard to pigeonhole as he moves across genres although never losing his signature theme: an intense ride through electronic music; cinematic, dramatic, yet never missing that particular groove. 

The electronic music enthusiasts has his own show “Sonorous” on Frisky radio and runs Schirmchendrink, the globally regarded brand with delicious “cocktails” of underground electronic music (and, admittedly, an incredibly hard-to-pronounce name). The original concept just celebrated its 200th episode anniversary past December. 

Together with his good friend, Benoit, Florian is further part of the deep electronica duo Gimérique. After founding Schirmchendrink together in 2016, they today work in tandem to bring dreamy electronic music into the air with releases on labels such as Sound Avenue or Harabe Recordings.

After a "bomb cyclone" of a winter storm hit New York on January 28/29th, I was thrilled to get the call from @lovecraftofficial to join him to play the brand new Nebula Club on a Saturday night in Manhattan.

Despite the city having received between 8-11 inches of snow, the club was rammed, and its state-of-the-art lighting and sound systems created a seductively warm vibe to counter to the frigid temperatures outside.

These factors led to my playing a much more "club" set than I usually am known to put together.

So please have a listen.  This set should be good for getting any night, workout, or to-do list entirely off and running!

An unexpected, snowy night at Nebula NYC

We’re continuing our British Airways special in collaboration with Deeper Sounds and are happy to welcome the next gifted storyteller to the Schirmchendrink team:

Milo Häfliger, Swiss, originally from Solothurn, a small town located in the north-western part of Switzerland on the foot of the Jura mountains, is known for his sophisticated selections. 

Not in his wildest dreams Milo imagined he’ll be travelling the world to play dj sets when he recorded his first ever mix. But, since it is that easy to fall for his mixes and to connect with the emotions transported through them, his success does not come as a surprise! 

Today, Milo is a goosebumps guarantee in the ethnic and melodic electronica scene. He hosts his own event series Marché des Miracles in Zurich, Switzerland’s electronic music hot spot, is resident of the Heal Play Love collective and plays at the most renowned venues and events such as the Swiss premiere of The Gardens of Babylon in Basel next month – just to mention a few of his current engagements.

And, I’m sure that everyone who met him in person will agree: Milo is just a completely down-to-earth and incredibly likeable human being! 
Thanks, Milo, for taking the time to mix this phenomenal contribution to the Schirmchendrink menu, it’s a pleasure featuring a true Swiss gem on the channel.

Unsere Nr. 207 kommt heute von einem Schweizer/Belgischen Duo, welche ich seit einiger Zeit verfolge. Melodisch und mit der gewissen Tiefe an danceability schaffen sie es ein aufs andere Mal faszinierende Sets aufzunehmen, welche nie ein Bein ruhig stehen lassen. Auch heute.

Nachdem sie sich 2013 auf SC kennengelernt haben, arbeiten Florian und Benoit heute im Tandem, um verträumte elektronische Musik mit einer erzählerischen Mischung aus sowohl deepen als auch lebendigen Elementen in die Welt zu bringen. Unter seinem Alias https://soundcloud.com/bigasti veröffentlichte Benoit auf Imprints wie Steyoyoke, Lost Diaries oder Einmusik und erlangte durch seinen einzigartigen melancholischen Ansatz in der elektronischen Musik schnell Anerkennung in der Szene. Floloco, Florians DJ-Projekt, hält sich weniger streng an nur ein elektronisches Musikgenre. Das Thema, das seine Sets oder Mixe verbindet, ist der besondere "https://soundcloud.com/floloco"-Groove. Nach jahrelanger Erfahrung in der elektronischen Musik als Einzelkünstler, vereint Gimérique den Signature-Sound der beiden Elektronikmusik-Enthusiasten zu einem neuen Kapitel auf ihrem vielversprechenden Weg in der elektronischen Musikszene.

Alles begann mit einem gemeinsamen DJ-Set, das auf der weltweit angesehenen Schirmchendrink-Mixshow veröffentlicht wurde, die die beiden 2015 gemeinsam gegründet haben. Nach mehreren gemeinsamen DJ-Sessions spürten sie, dass es an der Zeit war, das Projekt auf die nächste Stufe zu heben: et voilà, Gimérique war geboren!

Mit ihrer ersten gemeinsamen Produktion im Jahr 2020 hat Gimérique Lerrs "Hummingbird" in ein tiefes und verträumtes Territorium gebracht. 

Gimériques erste Originalproduktion, 'Calm at Heart', wurde im Frühjahr 2020 auf Harabe Recordings veröffentlicht und erkundet eine ambientere Landschaft ihres Sounds. 

Voller Ideen und Inspiration haben sich die beiden während der Pandemie im Studio verkrochen. Mit purer Aufregung können die beiden nun endlich ihre kommenden Projekte ankündigen, und das schon bald.

Anbei habe ich es mir nicht nehmen lassen Ihnen einige Fragen zu stellen:

Erzählt uns doch mal ein bisschen was über eure musikalischen Einflüsse und eurem Hintergrund.

Florian (ich): Geboren anfangs der 80er bin ich in den frühen 90ern mit elektronischer Musik in Kontakt gekommen. Bald einmal, und dies ist heute immer noch der Fall, begann meine Faszination von NYC und French House (oder Filter House sagte man dem eine Zeit lang). Mein Stil wurde sicherlich stark geprägt durch den mehr Techno/Elektronica-orientierte Stil in Europa später. Und, aufgrund meines Freundeskreis', erachte ich Hip Hop (Golden Era bis heute) ebenso als wichtigen Einfluss in meinen Musikgeschmack.

Ben kommt vom Rockigen, er spielte  Schlagzeug in seiner Kindheit und in Bands mit seinen Freunden. Erst später, mit dem Ausgehen in Clubs, begann seine Passion für elektronische Musik. Ben hat ein Faible für melancholische Melodien.

Zusammen ergänzen wir uns perfekt. Wir beide haben ein Faible für cineastische Klänge. Ich bin eher der groovige und Ben der melancholische - dies ergibt einen recht coolen und passenden mix, so finden wir zumindest ;)!

Was macht in euren Augen eine gute Afterhour aus?

Oh wow, dies ist schon eine Weile her. Afterhour haben eigentlich einen schweren Stand - wir gehen mal von einer guten Haupt-Party aus. Daher macht eine gute Afterhour für uns aus, dass es gelingt den Drive und die Stimmung zu verlängern, ja bestenfalls sogar noch zu übertreffen.
