Radio Alhara Goes Blues 🎸.

As much as I like sunny, tropical & high vibration rhythms, I have a soft spot for The Blues. It changed my life when I first listened to people like the Howlin’ Wolf, Bo Didley & Muddy Waters, to name a few! I was mesmerised, seduced and tantalised by its soulful lyrcics, heartbreaking voices, electric guitar riffs, loud harmonicas and foot stomping. Still to this day I wish I had the courage to drop some Blues during my DJ sets, who knows? For this mix I've been joined by Newcastle-based DJ, record collector and musician Rob Heron from Rob Heron & The Teapad Orchestra. We have unified our record collections & made a selection of some of our favourite Blues songs for your afternoon Boogie, enjoy this BLUES Y RITMO episode, next time we will do Gospel.

Refuge Wolrdwide /Deep House Tehran / MOSS

The Iranian-born and in the Netherlands raised Hani, has been working in the cultural and music industry in Amsterdam since the age of 20, where he is mainly active behind the scenes.

His taste in music has always been very broad; which makes his mixes versatile and eclectic. But one thing is for sure, being the child of a percussionist, these sounds and a touch of music from West-Asia & North-Africa, always influence his sets.

Since late 2021, with friend and DJ Moody Mehran, he started Diaspora Radio. A monthly radio show at Echobox Radio, where they showcase artists and creators with roots from the SWANA-region and broadcast their diaspora stories. Meanwhile, they also host club nights, cultural events and perform together as a collective.

The show delves into a peculiar niche of South Italian music repertoires exploring themes connected to the life of donkeys and horses. Expect old songs tipically recited by horse cart drivers in the streets of places such as Napoli, Palermo, and Salento, as well as a selection of other sort of songs entirely dedicated to the life of the two species.

The mix will explore the intricate relationship between man and these animals, the hardships of farmers life in post-war Italy and the love for these creatures, but also their dreadful exploitation that used to take place in mines and fields, or still happening in contemporary clandestine horse racing.
