"Thaher", named after 'Thaher Al Omar Al Zidani' (~1689-1775) who was A Palestinian ruler of Northern Palestine and attempted freeing 
the country from the Ottoman empire. An attempt which unfortunately ended in betrial by his own family.
This piece was written in his honor, summing his amazing powerful journey, mourning his death and betrayal and finally 
absorbing his power and continuing the journey.

"ظاهر"، نسبةً الى ظاهر العمر الزيداني (١٦٨٩-١٧٧٥)، احد الحكام الفلسطينيين في فترة الحكم العثماني (او الاحتلال العثماني) والذي حاول تحرير فلسطين من هذا الحكم, لكنه
لقي حتفه بعد ما تمت خيانته من قبل عائلته.
هذه المقطوعة مهداة الى ظاهر ولمسيرته المشرفة كما ان قسما من المقطوعة هو نعي وتعبير عن حزن شديد وخسارة لا توصَف, نهايتها رسالة بأن المسيرة مستمرة ولم تنته بعد.

An improvisation-meditation on getting lost and letting go. 

“I love going out of my way, beyond what I know, and finding my way back a few extra miles, by another trail, with a compass that argues with the map… nights alone in motels in remote western towns where I know no one and no one I know knows where I am, nights with strange paintings and floral spreads and cable television that furnish a reprieve from my own biography, when in Benjamin’s terms, I have lost myself though I know where I am. Moments when I say to myself as feet or car clear a crest or round a bend, I have never seen this place before. Times when some architectural detail on vista that has escaped me these many years says to me that I never did know where I was, even when I was home.”

Saied Silbak is a Palestinian composer and oud player born in Shafaa`mr, in the lower Galilee of occupied Palestine. He began training in classical piano at the age of four, before moving onto the oud in his early teens to delve deep into the nuances at the base of Arabic music. Silbak has a unique understanding of different types of music, from Arabic, Turkish and Indian to classical Western styles. 

His signature sound, created through his artful ability to fuse these styles together, has seen him perform around the world at festivals and concert series in the UK, Belgium, France, Palestine, Morocco, Argentina and beyond.

In recent years he has worked with many artists on interdisciplinary projects and has been involved in educational and community work, developing a politically and socially engaged practice.
