New Delhi Based artist - Bønehead - boldly embraces his genre-fluid approach to music with ‘Pulp Fictiøn’

- Where pop meets dance, trance meets breaks, electro meets bass and techno meets ghetto.

The New Delhi–based, multifaceted, and genre-fluid artist returns to his homegrown label with a new concept EP titled Pulp Fictiøn. Taking inspiration from the film, the EP features four intertwining tales (tracks) that revolve around the artist’s experiences, motives, and state of mind.

Ein ganz schlechter Trip.

Familie geht vor, keine Frage.

streng autoritär, zornig und depressiv.

Blut ist dicker als Wasser.
Wie oft ich den Satz im vergangenen Jahr hörte.
Was will mir Gott mit dieser Lektion lehren?

Diese stets wiederkehrenden Aufgaben im Leben, die mich prägen,
wo ich erst Jahre später den Sinn hinter dem Schicksal verstehe.
Wer kennt sie nicht.
Manchmal frage ich mich,
ob Gott mich mit einen Joystick steuert,
wie ein Avatar,
zur eigenen Belustigung.

Diese Aufgabe war jedoch nicht lustig,
weit entfernt von einem Ponnyhof.
Ihre Haut, sie juckte so sehr.
Wie ein Spiegel der Seele.
Mein Herz blutete wie ihre Wunden.
Ablehnen der Mission war keine Option.

Achtsame Menschen verweigern Lebens-Prüfungen nicht,
denn sie formen den Charakter und geben Dir Weisheit.
Sie zeigen Dir was Glück bedeutet. Meistens jedenfalls.
Seit Monaten sagen Freunde ich solle es bleiben lassen.
Die Geschichte so furchtbar, dass ich kaum darüber sprechen mag.

Schuldgefühle sind mächtig.
Wenn der Schmerz unerträglich ist,
wird er abgeschoben.
Blöd dabei der Empfänger zu sein, das geringere Übel um sich besser zu fühlen.
Ein natürlicher Verarbeitungsprozess,
Meine Liebe verloren weil ich schuldig bin.
Schuldig an dem Verlauf einer Geschichte,
den bloß Gott hätte beeinflussen können,
wenn er jemanden zu sich ruft.

Ich hadere mit Worten,
möchte die Geschichte loswerden,
sie nicht länger in mich hineinfressen,
zu gewaltig die Vorwürfe.
Sie hätten Konsequenzen.

Bilder und Erinnerungen,
auf Lebzeiten eingeprägt.
Um sie habe ich nicht gebeten.

Sie war so ein toller Mensch,
mehr Liebe ging nicht,
die Messlatte unglaublich hoch.
Das war nicht verdient lieber Gott!

Wer weiß wozu es gut ist.
So versuche ich mir einzubilden.
Ich fühle mich behütet und lasse los.

Meine Zeilen,
sie schmerzen mir sehr,
eine Erinnerung von dem was war,
mögen sie bitte mir gehören.
Zu meiner Kunst.

The Japanese Popstars return with their first new material in six years - the powerful anthem for these incredible times, ‘Checking Out’ ft. Martin Corrigan. The single is accompanied by a striking video, with both released on 31 July on The Japanese Popstars’ new label, FightTheNight. 

With ‘Checking Out’, the Northern Irish duo of Gary Curran and Gareth Donoghue unleash a blistering punk rock meets electro ode to the politics of negativity, inequality and segregation – much of which was as prevalent in 1970s/80s Northern Ireland as it remains worldwide in 2020. The impactful lyrics are passionately deployed by Alloy Mental’s Martin Corrigan, as he snarls such vital lines as “I’ve been segregated educated / beaten up and bruised / lied to and spied upon / Confiscated and confused / I'm Checking / I’m Checking Out.”

On the track’s key themes and video, The Japanese Popstars said: “'Checking Out is a rejection of the notions that encourage conflict and stress within Society, built on a Jesus Lizard bassline and Public Enemy beat.”

“In the video directed by Sean Curran we wanted to highlight some of the ideas of conflict and segregation that we first experienced growing up in Northern Ireland in the eighties and that we see now at a global scale, driven by ideologies, no matter what they are religious, political, financial, racial, all of which seem to want to push people apart rather than bring us closer together.”
