I always loved the live sound of crowds on records such as Baby D’s  ‘Let me be your Fantasy’, and live Emcee shouts and record scratches always felt like a true early rave feature. The reason I use breaks so much is that there’s something about picking apart a breakbeat sample, rearranging, stretching and manipulating it that is, and was, so much fun throughout this EP. Mory Kanté is an African singer from Guinee. His father ‘El Hadj Djelifode’ was tribal chief of the ‘Griots’, he had 38 children and died at an age of 109. In 1987 Mory Kanté scored a world hit with his song ‘yéké yéké’, which was later remixed and played a lot by Richie Hawtin. ‘Le Griot’ is an extremely danceable African disco gem which was released in 2001 within his album ‘Tamala’. Play it loud and enjoy!
