Biography

SAKINA began her career self taught, as an autodidact, before she received professional education and voice training.
In the 90′s she was a member of the Mesopotamian Culture Centre, a Kurdish artists association based in Istanbul but acting throughout all of Turkey. Its members suffered various reprisals by the government because of their Kurdish lyrics. Some of them paid their artistic dedication with their lives.
During this time she organized many (due to the government led forbiddance of the Kurdish language until the late 90s) illegal concerts, until eventually she was forced to flee.
She continued her work in Armenia, Syria and Kurdish-Irak.
Currently she is living in Vienna.

Sakîna, di fîlma serkeftî ya bi navê Bêrîtan de, ku derhenêriya wê Halîl Uysal kir, bi strana xwe ya Bêrîtanê bû stranbêja sereke ya fîlmê û bi vê stranê re, ku ji aliyê gelek hunermendên din ve jî hatibû strîn, Sakîna vegeriya jiyana xwe ya mûzîkê. 
Piştî ku Sakîna di 2006ê de derket Ewropayê wê digel Orkestraya Caza Împrovîze ya Viyanayê (VIO) gelek konser dan. Herweha ev çendîn sal in ku Sakîna digel komeke şanoyê ya kuçeyan a împrovîze bi nivîsar û stranên xwe hunera xwe pêşkêş dike. Hunermendê, di bihara 2011ê de komeke bi navê TRİO MARA, ku ji sê jinan pêk tê, damezirand. Trio Mara, stranên klasîk ên kurdî û stranên jinan bi piyano û kemanê pêşkêş dike û herweha formên kelepûrî bi formên nûjen digihîne hev.
Hunermenda ku li welatên Ewropayê yên wekî Almanya, Awusturya, Hollanda û Fransayê gelek konser dan, wekî din digel hunermend Mehmet Akbaş li çendîn bajar û welatan konserên hevbeş dan.
Sakîna di destpêka 2012ê de yekemîn xebata xwe ya solo, an ku bi albûma xwe ya bi navê ROYÊ Mİ derket pêşberî guhdarên xwe. 
Hunermend Sakîna, ku li kêleka xebatên xwe yên mûzîkê rojnamegerî û parêzvaniya mafên mirovan û yên jinan dike, ji sala 2006 û vir ve xebatên xwe li viyanayê didomîne.

1973 yılında Muş’un Varto ilçesinde doğdu. Müzikle ilgilenen alevi bir ailede deyişlerle içiçe büyüdü. İlk, orta ve yüksek öğrenimi süresince amatör müzik gruplarında ve değişik korolarda yer aldı. 
1991 yılında İstanbul’da kurulan MKM(Mezopotamya Kültür Merkezi) çatısı altında Kürtçe müzik alanında çalışmalarına başladı ve Koma Mezrabotan’da vokalist olarak yer aldı. Değişik alanlarda çalışması nedeniyle müziğe uzun yıllar ara veren sanatçı, 2006 yılında yeniden profesyonel olarak müzikle ilgilenmeye başladı. Halil Uysal tarafından yapılan ve oldukça büyük bir izleyici kitlesine ulaşan Bêrîtan isimli filmde, müziği kendisine ait Bêrîtan isimli şarkı, filmin ana şarkısı oldu ve başka sanatçılar tarafından da seslendirilmiş şarkıyı yeniden sesledirerek, müziğe dönüş yaptı. 
Viyana İmprovize Caz Orkestrası eşliğinde yazdığı değişik tekstleri okuduğu ve şarkılar seslendirdiği konserler verdi. Doğaçlama sokak tiyatrosu yapan bir tiyatronun son dört yıllık projelerinde şarkı ve tekstleriyle performans sergileyen Sakina, 2011 baharında TRİO MARA isimli bir kadın üçlüsü kurdu. Klasik Kürt Müziği eserlerini ve kadınlar tarafından söylenmiş şarkıları piyano ve keman eşliğinde seslendiren sanatçı, geleneksel formları modern formlarla harmanlayarak, deneysel çalışmalar yapmayı ilke edindi. 
Avusturya, Almanya, Hollanda ve Fransa’da çok sayıda solo konserler yapan sanatçı, aynı zamanda Mehmet Akbaş ile de Avrupa’nın değişik ülke ve şehirlerinde ortak konserler yaptı.
Sanatçı, 2012 yılı başında ilk solo çalışması olan ROYÊ Mİ isimli albümü ile dinleyenlerinin karşısına çıktı. 
Gazetecilik ve köşe yazarlığının yanısıra, insan hakları ve kadın hakları aktivisti olan Sakina, 2006 yılından beri Viyana’da çalışmalarını sürdürüyor.

Discription & Biography

'Mara' is Zazaki, which is one of the oldest native languages in the Middle East. It means BY US.

Mara draws from the rich treasure of traditional Kurdish songs. They express them anew in their own particular way by contrasting classical and contemporary music. Presented in a way only women can sing them these songs turn into a great experience.

She continued her work in Armenia, Syria and Kurdish-Irak.
Currently she is living in Vienna.
Since 2008 she has become increasingly involved with human rights issues in particular women’s rights issues.
She views her music as a way portraying the life of people in the Kurdish regions. She realizes this with a sensitive performance of striking melodies by which suffering and melancholy, courage for life and yearning become palpable.

Naze Isxan
Naze Isxan began to play piano at the age of six. The pianist graduated from the Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory in Krasnodar as a concertmaster and music teacher. Since the end of the nineties, she has given concerts in Russia at first and since 2001 she also appears on a regular basis in other European countries. 
She has a passion for Kurdish music that she would like to introduce to a wider non-Kurdish audience in her concerts. Therefore, she also arranged traditional Kurdish melodies for piano and published the first Kurdish music book for piano in 2004 (Evina Kurdistane - Bona Pianoforte).

Nure Dlovani
Nure Dlovani is a solo violinist who also works as a teacher for violin and piano. She received her professional education at the conservatories in Moscow, Erevan, and Frankfurt. 
Her repertory is rich and comprises classical music and pop as well as sound tracks or crossover performances with the New Philharmonics in Frankfurt. She also works with a variety of well-known Kurdish musicians both in the studio and as a solo violinist in live concerts.

TRIO MARA
Kadinlardan olusan, kadinlar tarafindan söylenmis sarkilari klasik bati müzigi enstrümanlari ve geleneksel ses teknikleriyle yeniden yorumlayan TRIO MARA, kemanda Nurê Dilovanî, piyanoda Nazê Îsxan, vokalde de Sakîna'nin yer aldigi bir üçlü olarak müzikal yolculuguna bir seneyi askin bir süre önce basladi.
MARA, Ortadogu’nun kadim dillerinden biri olan Kürtçe’nin Kirmanckî lehçesinde “Bizden„ anlamina gelirken, Ortadogu dillerinin birçogunda da birbirine yakin disil anlamlar tasir. Ma, Ermenice ve Kirmanckî'de köken olarak ana anlamina gelir. Ayrica Arapça'da MARA kadin demektir. 
Kürtçe'nin Kurmancî, Kirmanckî ve Soranî lehçelerinin yanisira, Türkçe, Azerice ve Ermenice sarkilar da seslendiren TRIO MARA, halklarin kültürleri arasinda olusan yapay sinirlarin ortak bir dil olan müzik yoluyla anlamsiz kilinabilecegine ve israrla müzigin barisçil diliyle konusmak gerektigine inaniyor. 
Yüzyillardir savaslarin, kanin, gözyasi ve acinin dinmek bilmedigi Kürdistan’dan gelen TRIO MARA üyeleri, repertuarlarinda kadinlarin ve halklarin trajedilerini yansitan sarkilar kadar, asklarini, coskularini, yasam biçimlerini yansitan sarkilara da yer veriyor. 
TRIO MARA, egemen bakis açilari ve yargilari karsisinda susmayan kadinlarin sesi olmayi amaçliyor. 
TRIO MARA sarkilari bizden size bir nefes, bir ses, bir ritm olarak gelsin. Kah vahsi dag baslarinda, kah coskun irmak kenarlarinda, kah uçsuz bucaksiz ovalarda, müzikle güzel bir yolculuga çikmaniz dilegiyle.

TRIO MARA - Xemili Zozan

Esrarê Deyîr- Zerşikite

Sakina was born into a Kurdish Alevite family in the small town of Varto in Turkey. As a teenager she started singing with Turkish choirs and bands, but it wasn’t until she entered university that she became acquainted with Kurdish musical traditions and set out to defy cultural assimilation. In 1991 she joined the Mespotamian Cultural Centre in Istanbul, a proponent of Kurdish culture, as a vocalist. Like many other Kurdish musicians, she was forced to literally go underground to practise her music and soon she had to choose political activism over art.

It wasn’t until Sakina arrived to Austria as a political refugee in 2006 that she took to singing as a full-time pursuit again. The first fruit of her concentrated creative efforts were released in the form of her first solo album ROYÊ MI, globally distributed by ARC Music.

Sakina joined forces with pianist Nazê Îşxan and violinist Nurê Dilovanî to form the all-female TRIO MARA, drawing on traditional Kurdish songs mainly sung by and handed down from woman to woman, enrichening the material with Western classical and contemporary approaches. In 2013 the trio released their first album DERI / BEHIND THE DOORS, recorded live at the Rudolf Ötker Hall in Bielefeld. The album was distributed by AHENK MÜZIK and earned the trio a wider acknowledgement. They were included in the portfolio of the Secretary of Culture of North-Rhine Westfalia and publicly commissioned to tour a number of venues in the region.

Since 2013 Sakina works with another group, the ANADOLU QUARTETT, touring Austria and Germany. Their first tour is successfully documented in the form of the live album KÖPRÜ/THE BRIDGE (Ahenk Müzik), a recording that reached a large audience and garnered the group critical recognition.

On top of all that, Sakina has established the Vienna-based ensemble “Sakina & Friends” featuring musicians from Iran, Spain, Austria and Turkey. They regularly perform throughout Austria, where Sakina appears on a lot of album projects and concert bills, never tired to support other artists.
