The story goes that Kode9 first heard Loraine’s tracks after object blue spontaneously tagged him in an Instagram story last year featuring L performing live, prompting him to release her music. In June this year, it was announced that Loraine will be joining Hyperdub’s roster, one of the most coveted ranks of artists in all of electronic music. What came out of the signing was ‘For You and I’ - a profoundly human, sonically feral record that quickly topped most of September’s Best Of Albums list and has since garnered a ferocious fanbase with both the world’s leading DJs and producers, as well as the listening public.

We, as part of the Yugospheric continuum of electronic music collectives, have been ardent followers of Loraine’s work for some time now, and her music has touched both our own hearts and our CDJs'. Her Bandcamp has been steadily growing since 2015 - with an extremely humble approach to going about her music, the tracks she put out throughout the years are fiercer, more innovative, and more immersive than most of the stuff out there anyways. But it is with ‘For You and I’ that Loraine secured a lofty spot in the pantheon of contemporary, forward-thinking musical expression. We’re tempted to say this made her the perfect pick for our series, but we cannot resist in stating we are overwhelmed that she accepted our offer, and as all other artists we come in contact with do - with grace and chill.

The podcast she sent us was recorded during the end days of July — we decided to wait for the perfect timing after her debut album was released and she has recovered from all the acclaim heaped on her, to grasp momentum of her quite unrivalled ascent in recent weeks.

You can catch Loraine James performing at the finest avant-garde contemporary electronic music festival in the region - Ljubljana's Grounded Festival - where she will share the stage with DJs we’re blessed to have as close friends and collaborators — the Belgrade-based @saud and @icketa — as well as with VOLTA’s own @n-obezg. We sincerely hope you do - safe to say this young lady is currently one of the world’s most acclaimed alternative electronic artists, and we cannot overstate her relevance.
