#2 of a collection, improvisations on Native American Flute replicas from Indigenous flute makers of the past. This flute, a HoChunk replica by Ted Ceplina.
The Ho-Chunk, also known as Winnebago, are a Siouan-speaking Native American people whose historic territory includes parts of Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, and Illinois. Today, Ho-Chunk people are enrolled in two federally recognized tribes, the Ho-Chunk Nation of Wisconsin and the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska.
This song is meant to express gaiety and anticipation of attending a fun social event. Imagine small groups of friends walking together down a dusty road toward the event venue. Hoop dances, drumming, great food; a fun time awaits!
This song is played in the Minor scale for this flute. It is the norm for a song based on oral tradition to repeated many times, like a chant. As they are usually fairly short, this works out well for group singing at powwows and during special ceremonies.

Indigenous Collection HoChunk Traditional "On the Way to the Powwow"

#8 in a collection, this is a traditional song of the Dakotas tribes. 
It is transposed from sheet music for modern Native American flute to an Indigenous-tuned instrument. 
A friendship song, that could be about a lover going away and being called back or a friend leaving temporarily and being missed. "I'll see you again someday.”

Indigenous Collection Poweshiek Traditional “Wioste Olowan Tokiya"

#9 of a collection, Amazing Grace was written in 1772 by a Christian minister and adopted by the Cherokee people as their national anthem, during the forced relocation of the Cherokee peoples from the Southeastern U.S. to present-day Oklahoma during what is now called The Long Walk. What is now infamously known as “The Trail of Tears”. Many perished on the difficult journey, but because of poor conditions, the Cherokee were not always able to give their dead a full burial. Instead, the singing of Amazing Grace had to suffice. 
This song is played on a replica of a Northern Plains Indigenous Flute. The original replica design was created by Dr. Richard Payne and this replica of a replica was made by Jon Norris. 
Doc Payne, a noted Indigenous flute historian, was instrumental in helping preserve the songs and the sounds of the old style indigenous flutes.
This flute plays in something close to a Diatonic Major scale or close to Mode 2/5 of a modern NAF.

Indigenous Collection Toubat Traditional “Amazing Grace"

#12 of a collection, on Native American Flute replicas from Indigenous flute makers of the past and present. This flute is a more modern Native flute made by a member of the Navajo Nation, Donald "Duck" Coolidge. 

This ballad from the 1700s came by way of a gentleman, who had resided several years in America amongst the tribe or nation called the Cherokees, who sang a wild air, for which he assured that it was customary for those people to chant with a barbarous jargon, implying contempt for their enemies in the moments of torture and death. The melody and mood of this piece is in complete opposition to what is being sung to the enemies of the Cherokee people; in their face. A chant/rant that makes fun of and insults the captors even as one is dying.

#14 of a collection of songs on Indigenous tuned flutes. A courting song for Valentines Day. This is played with Remo hand drum, shaker and 2 North American Indigenous Flutes made by Rich Dube of Northern Spirit Flutes in A and D Diatonic Major. All instruments were played by myself complete with inconsistent tempos. There is nothing electronic here except the DAW I used to create it. 😁 How much fun is that, to be your own drum circle?
The tuning for these instruments was made in consultation with the late Kevin Locke of the Oglala Lakota tribe.
