Sally Caithness also known professionally as Sally C was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland and got into DJing while living in Dundee Scotland, but Sally has always had a strong foothold in her current residence of Berlin where she has lived since 2015. Having played all over the city it wasn't long before she was throwing out lengthy sets in Griessmuehle, Saule at Berghain and Melt! with sets at Panorama Bar and more worldwide ahead its become clear she is alot more than one of the new up and coming names in dance. Having taken early inspirations from DJ's like Fast Eddie, Tyree and K-Hand, her sets have a driving energy with a US pulse that almost feel like you have been lassoed on to the dance floor. This energy is definitely a big part of her production style too with her excellent imprint Big Saldo's Chunkers which were instant sell out's worldwide. Fast-rising Dutch DJ/producer BELLA becomes the first new artist signing to Sally C’s Big Saldo’s Chunkers imprint, with the inspiring ‘Note to Self’ EP – her debut production.


Relationships are key for Sally C. Since the inception of Big Saldo’s Chunkers in 2020, she’s released three carefully chosen EPs, all from her own studio. When she met BELLA while playing a festival in Amsterdam during summer 2022, the click was instantaneous, with the pair going on to play an impromptu b2b that day. Vibing both musically and energetically, they kept in touch, with BELLA sending Sally her maiden productions ‘Note To Self’ and ‘Orchestra Spring’. Sally connected so deeply with the tracks that they’d form the backbone of her debut artist EP on Big Saldo’s Chunkers.

One listen to the final EP and it’s not hard to see why Sally wanted to emboss them as Chunkers. Three fresh originals taking in influence from ‘90s house, acid, electro and prog, all with a unique hard-to-pin-down energy that makes them hit with a special swing.


The title track – also the first production made for the EP - sees BELLA lay down a sonic blueprint – both for her own sound and the full body of work. “This set the vibe and guided me through the creative process. I was really trying to make something that felt my own, that was also unique and not something I’ve heard before,” she shares. ‘Note to Self’ is heavy on attitude and bounce, driven by banging old skool drums, a rapid-fire grime-style vocal and a duo of synth lines – one uplifting, the other mining a slick ‘80s sheen, and the results are memorable. An absolute tune that Sally’s delighted to add to the Chunker catalogue.

‘Orchestra Spring’ is the perky sequel, a wicked one-two punch of kaleidoscopic groovy house with lashings of attitude that loves to scribble outside the lines with lots of retro samples and trippy energy. ‘Odd Symphony’ completes the trio, a blazing late-night cut driven by a gurgling acid underbelly, gritty drums and warm chords, giving the EP a brilliant afterglow.

Olsvangèr – one of Sally’s favourite producers – steps up for remix duties of ‘Odd Symphony’, and delivers a dynamic re-rub that begins in upbeat house territory, before taking an interlude in perkier rave realms.

Advice for the DJs, producers and artists of our community:
Your internal locus of evaluation will guide you. Don’t follow trends or get caught up in social media. Dig for music that truly makes you groove. Keep digging. Challenge yourself. Surround yourself with people who inspire you and lift you up. There is always more to learn and more music to discover. 

About the mix: I thoroughly enjoyed collecting music for this one over the last few months. This is my usual approach to mixes, I like to collect and select over a period of time to let the music flow and fall into place naturally. 'Back to the Basics' - I wanted to get back to straight up house in this mix and emit a summery feel as we move into this season. The first half of the mix I aimed to project a softer energy, a slowed down pace to counter the crazy busy period I'm in and to emphasise my love for my biggest and truest influence, 90's house music. There really is an infinite array of music made in this era and it keeps giving more and more as time goes on, I find it fascinating that there is still so much to discover. The first half is filled with lovely juicy finds from my favourite era and labels. The second half of the mix rolls into a more driving energy and shines light on forthcoming music bridging the connection from old to new, something I strive for in my sets, productions and digging. Recorded in my new apartment and on my new setup with an abundance of natural light shining in - the energy is very fresh.

Sally C and Eliza Rose collide to announce a celestial joint release
 
Launched in 2020, Big Saldo’s Chunkers draws on the sensibilities of classic US house music, crafting unique dancefloor cuts that don’t compromise on quality. It is label founder Sally C’s deep passion for the golden era of hip house and the sounds of 88’ - 98’ that has really shaped her raw and chunky style and inspired her productions and eponymous label Big Saldo’s Chunkers. A homage to the era she’s so obsessed with.
 
What started off as a self-release series is now a home to showcase and support talented artists. Inviting artists to put their own twist on Chunkers has been a natural next step in the evolution of this growing label, as it continues to push boundaries and open doors.

BSC006 marks the sixth release on Big Saldo’s Chunkers. The 4 track EP showcases both the first time Sally has collaborated with another artist and the inaugural remix of a Sally C track by Blitz Munich resident, BASHKKA. 

A SIDE groover DR Pleasure is a playful, up-tempo raw house tune accented by Eliza’s instantly recognisable vocals coaxing the crowd with the tongue in cheek call to party - “You know i’ve got the goodies to make you feel great, refining ya mind make ya booty shake” perfectly paired with a dubby roller by the talented BASHKKA. B SIDE chunk continues with Eliza’s sexy vocals over Sally’s relentless raw beats.

The first release of 2025 on Big Saldo’s Chunkers comes in hot with an all-killer, no-filler four-tracker from London’s @papanugs. All four tunes on Move it or Lose it are playful, upbeat house jams, with carefully arranged elements firmly aimed at the dancefloor.

The seventh release on the label is a fully realized vision of Papa Nugs’ take on the classic chunkers style: big, boshy, hip-catching basslines, infectious vocal chops, party-starting percussion, and a generous helping of rave-ready samples and FX.

Nugs’ masterful production chops shine through especially bright here. The canon of 90s club music is referenced with expert poise: subtle nods to early trance, progressive and hard house, turn-of-the-century Ibiza tribal, and insouciantly sleazy tech house are delicately woven into the tracks, along with the contemporary hip house vibe the label has gained notoriety for. As the lead vocal in Turn it Down repeats: “We’re here to have a good time,” and the EP is exactly that.

With festival season just around the corner, this one is sure to be a staple on main stages worldwide. Needless to say, now is not the time to sleep on the latest offering from BSC.

House Flava - The Remixes welcomes @ohpeach & @iamcarista to the label for a special Remix Chunk Deluxe. Two slick and sexy sonic additions to Chunkers.

House Flava was a summer ’24 highlight and epitomised Cromby’s special touch in the studio, nominated for Track of the Year by DJ Mag, heavily supported on BBC Radio 1 and was a go-to for countless artists including Job Jobse, Chloe Caillet, NIKS, Moxie and Midland among many others.

“For myself and Cromby, plus all our friends – House Flava soundtrack pretty much all of 2024. As soon as Chris made it, he sent it to me and we immediately knew it belonged on the label. It was a Chunker. The record came out at the end of last summer, so we spiced it up with a couple of insane remixes from two of our favourite artists ahead of Summer 2025. I’m obsessed with both remixes and can’t stop playing them,” shares Sally.

A big supporter of the original, Canadian selector Peach brings bags of trippy energy to her ‘House Flava’ remix. Stripped back, pumping and full of low-end swing, this is simultaneously a classic tech house roller, that packs plenty of woozy tribal energy. “There is only one Peach, her energy, quirkiness and skills behind the decks and in her productions are unmatched. She’s taken a super sexy rolling take on the original which melts into your ears and out of the speakers.”

Dutch powerhouse Carista is next up on re-rub duties. The United Identities label founder takes this into eerie after-hours territory, with a dynamic cut marked by subterranean bass stabs and a sinister lead, while retaining sections of the original vox. Perfect for those long sessions when things go a little wonky. “Carista is an absolute power house. Her productions are heavy hitting, drum and acid focused bangers with a slick simplicity we love at Chunkers. Her remix is just that – heavy chunk has arrived!” Sally buzzes.

The Chunkers sound has gone global! Stepping up for the eighth volume of Sally C’s influential imprint is Paperkraft from Japan. 

The ascendent producer in a mainstay of the Osaka scene and has been on Sally’s radar in recent times thanks to a standout EP on Physical Education that had a “real driving breaky old skool” vibe she loves. Elsewhere he’s dropped the tight ‘Not C but K’ on Homage, remixes of Gearmaster on Hidden Assets and material on Mindhelmet and Tombolo. 

His contribution to the BSC cannon is thrilling from the get-go. The lead ‘Play Somethin’ Nasty’ is a natural born Chunker, bursting with attitude and sass. Simultaneously colourful, yet cohesive, it mixes up playful hip house vocals with plump b-lines and plenty of rave energy, before a squelchy bass frenzy highlights the second stanza.
‘Funky Blah Blah’ is informed by ‘90s Italo and funky house and is a cute bridging track with plenty of character. 

‘Drop The O.S.B.’ is a legit fire cut that’s already become a favourite of Job Jobse after it ignited DC10 this summer. It takes the old skool rave spirit of ‘Play Somethin’ Nasty’ and amplifies it to 11, resplendent with rapid- fire raps, hoovers and a mammoth key-driven riff. ‘Let it Whip’ is a slick DJ tool that channels understated hard house energy, powered by an addictive vocal loop. 

Paperkraft follows BELLA, Eliza Rose, Papa Nugs and remixes Peach and CARISTA in joining the Big Saldo’s Chukers family as Sally C delights in growing the label via a carefully curated roster of artists.
