Forever's Not Forever

I co-wrote this with my friend Mark Miller in Nashville, circa 1997.  He describes the back-story much better than I.  "A great tune and this demo gets lots of positive feedback. Reynaldo Martine had/has a great voice! Plus Jimmy Griffin singing the harmonies and an all star group of session players, Byrd Burton on Acoustic and Electric guitars and Mandolin , Mike Leech on bass, Rick Lonow on drums, Tim Hayden on keys and I can’t remember the steel player, but he was in Patty Loveless’s band at the time. I did it at Fireside and George Clinton tracked it and we mixed it together. This is one of my favorite stories too. Reynaldo who had just been signed to Warners had a meeting with Jim Ed Norman, but had to jet right after the session. I got a call about an hour later from Jim Ed as I was sitting at the board mixing. He said Reynaldo couldn’t remember all the details, but had played him a verse and chorus on acoustic guitar in the office and Jim Ed said “it’s a hit!” and wanted to make sure that we held it for Reynaldo. 4-5 months later, Reynaldo jumps ship for Mercury and continues to hold it. Then it all went south and he never got a deal again. I pitched it to Kyle Lehning who was producing Bryan White at the time and he wanted to hold it too. 2 years go by and everybody loves the song, but nobody cuts it. Here we are 20 odd years later and it still sounds good, but still not released until I put it on my website. Such is the Gnashville music biz. I still think it would be perfect for the soundtrack of a hit tv show or movie!
