Sprang It began its life as a James Brown-esk loopy sample funk thang from a Mant ableton session. The band switched it up with a quick studio session after Salmonella Dub Soundsystem gigs at the Dux Live in Otautahi Christchurch adding horns and vocals from Andrew, Dave & Asterix. Harry Bretherton masterminded the arrangement cutting hypno guitar, drunken horns, gyro springs and the swaggering "Where's his ID" vox from Andrew P~ contrasting with Dave Deaks "I can't find what’s up ahead" crooning with the rhythm and rhyme of the Mighty Asterix "sprangin' it." In February 2008, Salmonella Dub and the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra collaborated for the Feel The Seasons Change tour of New Zealand with shows performed in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Nelson. This tour has now been immortalised through the release of a live album of the same name. 
 
The Feel The Seasons Change project combined Salmonella Dub’s contemporary music and production values with elements of te reo Maori, the ancient arts of taonga puoro (traditional Maori instruments) and the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra’s classical tradition.
The project was graced with 3 very special guests; the superlative voice of acclaimed te reo singer Whirimako Black; the haunting sounds of renowned taonga puoro expert Richard Nunns; and leading electronic musician Paddy Free of Pitch Black all woven together by noted Christchurch arranger and composer Tom Rainey and conducted by Hamish Mckeich.

Blood and Bone is a reckoning set to rhythm—an album built where the body meets myth, where memory scrapes against metal, and survival grows teeth. Its sonic palette threads drum-machine pulse through dust-bitten guitars, twang through circuitry, and flamenco flicker through industrial grit. Every track lives in the tension between ruin and insistence, between a world that shakes with fire, violence, wind, and destiny, and a narrator who keeps stepping forward anyway. The project treats rhythm not as a backdrop but as a heartbeat you can almost hear splitting, mending, and refusing collapse.

Across this landscape, the human form is battered, unmasked, hunted, resurrected, and set ablaze—but never surrendered. The music leans into acoustic grain, the sweat-salt of live strings, the grit of surf twang and outlaw twine, yet plants those textures in a scaffold of relentless electronic precision. What emerges is a bruised hymn to endurance: techno carved out of earth, alt-country scorched into myth, psychobilly swagger sharpened by war and weather. Blood and Bone doesn’t seek redemption so much as it chronicles the cost of staying alive when the elements, the mountains, the inner voices, and the gods all stare back—and demand a response.


In the Dark

Resurrectors are a 9 piece dub reggae band from Redfern, Sydney comprising an eclectic mix of local talent as well as musicians originally from Barbados, South Africa, England and New Zealand.

The band features some of Sydney’s finest musicians. Cameron Deyell plays in Bertie Blackman’s and Inge Lilestrom’s bands. Jon Pease tours nationally in Paul Mac’s band. Declan Kelly has released a solo album which was quite successful in its own right. Peter Firth is also a permanent member of Kingtide.

Healing is the band’s debut album and has already won them some talented fans:
The album features a bonus remix of the title track by Fat Freddy’s Drop producer and main man DJ Fitchie.

Resurrectors are an amazing live and will be touring extensively on the back of the album. Launches planned for Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane and Byron Bay. Already they have supported top dub acts including Fat Freddy’s Drop and the Black Seeds.

The album combines great songwriting and soulful performance with a social conscience and in doing so delivers a very powerful and compelling musical message. This is great music made by people living in Australia and singing about Australian subjects. The band tap into a rich and soulful tradition whilst presenting their sound in a current and contemporary style.

Salmonella Dub began in 1992 crafting their name from the “bad-taste” dub cover versions of songs they used to break the ice amongst their original tracks in their early sets. In ’90s New Zealand, dub/roots/reggae freak-outs weren’t entirely in vogue — grunge and dance music held sway — so Salmonella Dub would use lighthearted covers of Nancy Sinatra, The Orb’s Little fluffy Clouds, plus Public Enemy and Fred Dagg’s “Larry Loves Barry” to win over skeptical audiences.

In the early ’90s, New Zealand’s liquor licensing laws changed, allowing pubs and clubs to stay open late and revitalizing the country’s live music scene. Members of the band then called Golf Course Alligators seized this opportunity and, in late 1992, Andrew Penman (guitar), Mark Tyler (bass), and Dave Deakins (drums) became Salmonella Dub. In the early days they lacked money for a sampler and used DIY solutions by hooking up an on/off foot pedal to the motor of a cassette player in order to drop samples by foot in real time from tape on stage. These samples would come from whatever was on the TV at the time, whether it was the news or a Cheech & Chong movie. Lacking the funds for cassettes, they raided the bins of a record store and found discarded copies of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles albums that served as their early tape stock.

To prepare for their first, self-titled album in 1994, Peter Wood (trumpet, keyboard) and Conan Wilcox (saxophone, percussion) were invited to join the band. Salmonella Dub was released through the independent label Curious Records. Following quickly from this album the band released Dub Tomfoolery a 7 track EP with mixing contributions from Mike Hodgson of Pitchblack.

Soon afterwards, Wood left the band, moving to Auckland and getting a job to pay his student overdraft. Around this time Penman made contact with David Harrow (ONU sound) through Grant Fell of the Headless Chickens. Harrow was employed to work on their next EP THC Winter the band’s first foray into Jungle and DnB in 1995.
