The "Summer Soulstice" is a big festival of Soul/Funk/Disco/Soulful House and relative genres that takes place in London every year, and which purpose is to raise money to help fight cancer. For this 7th edition, I've created a special rework in memories of Andy Weekes, along with committee member Jester Groove and the rest of the "Summer Soulstice" Crew.

Story :
"In 2006 a dear friend of ours & one of Barnet’s favourite sons, died of cancer in the USA where he had lived for many years. To pay our tribute to a much missed friend & to keep his memory alive, the family & a group of his nearest & dearest, decided to hold a special annual get-together for local friends & an extended family of fellow soul enthusiasts @ a venue close to his heart…"

Here on Labor Of Love EP covert disco spy Labor Of Love delivers three cuts on the That's What We Doin' EP, and all of them look the American soul sounds of the glittering 1980s - "Favours" kicks things off as a slow jam with chiming keys, clavinet grooves and smooth n breezy vocals, next the title track is a faster golden boogie jam, the kind that Metro Area looked to for inspiration and lastly "Just For You" is the kind of raw bass strutter that would have set the coolest New York funk clubs alight back in the day.

Labor of Love - Just For You - HB018

This is the more danceable track on the album... I was inspired by New Orleans funeral processions. I started with the title "dance on my grave" and googled it - and that wasn't what I was feeling so I swapped on with upon, as for me "dance upon my grave" is a celebration that I made it through life. There are some lyrics, and there are places where the rhythm goes away - that's why I tagged it prog rock also. Its all synthesizers... One of my roots...
