🥷 🌴 ⚙️ Ninja Exotic Machine is the duo project by Matteo Coffetti and Kakofonico, the heads behind Pho Bho Records together with Federico Spini.
The duo is born from a shared musical vision, in wich tribal rythms are combined with tight electronic drums and deep bass lines.

Broken grooves, percussions🥁, esoteric vocal and arpeggios combined with oriental melodies🧞‍♂️ are their distinctive features, through which they create an intimate sound where the mystical meets the contemporary.

Next up is a producer and DJ who has become well known across Latin America and beyond for his far reaching sets which channel influences from scenes and music cultures from all over.

At the tail end of 2021 Omar Suárez released his latest music on celebrated record label NAAFI of which he has become closely affiliated. Some might call it techno but it went deeper than that, way deeper. This was a record all about atmosphere, style and sound design - he reworked percussion in a monstrous, unique fashion and the result was as enticing in the headphones as it sounds on the dancefloor.

This mix showcases Omar's respectable knowledge of music from around the world as he draws upon the influences which have helped to solidify his sound. There's hip hop, dub, rave, jazz, ambient and pretty much the full gauntlet in this tape which might just go down as one of our favourites this year.

Starting from the early 1900s, Japanese popular music was established through incorporating various styles of foreign music such as jazz, Hawaiian, tango, and Afro- Cuban music. Its history is full of local composers releasing under fake foreign identities, mixed race and American-born Japanese singers, and overseas groups singing in Japanese. While this hybrid music is now nostalgic and even retro, it also illustrates how colonialism/post-colonialism, ethnicity, and stereotypes have played out in cultural identities and global pop cultures. Tracks selection and comments provided by musicologist Yusuke Wajima. DJ mix, introduction, and English translation by dj sniff (Takuro Mizuta Lippit).

Ahhh, “Rave”.  Equal parts noun and adjective.  

HARKEN 006 is an ode to all my favorite facets of the Rave + the Rave-adjacent.  

Inside you will find darker shades of Rave neatly nestled between brighter bits + blips, all of which from different dance music luminaries. 

A good portion of these tracks were released between the early 90s - early 00s, during the most crucial + formative daze of Rave, at least as I happen to see it.  

At 60 tracks and just under 3 full hours, this is a mix designed specifically for getting lost deeply within - close your eyes, unclench your tensions, absorb the arps, and portals are likely to present themselves.

This mix also comes to you in the month of my 20 year DJ anniversary. 

I’ve had a great deal of fun and enjoyment in making + shaping this mix series I’ve named “HARKEN”, and I hope that comes through via playback + transfers over to all of you as well.  Utmost thanks + gratitude goes out to my good friend Danny, with whom this mix would literally not have been possible.
