Jazz

L’univers du Jazz se dote régulièrement de nouveaux talents, techniciens talentueux très souvent, garants de l’émotion et du plaisir plus rarement. L’exercice est ponctué d’un apprentissage délicat et complexe, d’une maitrise du temps peu commune et d’une ouverture d’esprit permanente.

C’est en accompagnant Avishai Cohen dés ses 19 ans que Shai Maestro a fait ses armes. Après cinq années à parcourir les scènes les plus prestigieuses aux quatre coins de la planète, l’heure de l’indépendance a sonné, le temps de la création est venu.

Nourri de culture traditionnelle, classique et jazz, Shai Maestro a peaufiné son piano et son talent de compositeur et il a aussi su s’entourer de la meilleure des façons : Ziv Ravitz à la batterie (Lee Konitz, Esperanza Spalding …) et Jorge Roeder à la contrebasse (Roy Haynes, Gary Burton, Julian Lage …). Un Trio envoutant sur disque, magique sur scène.

ZombieSC - "Battle (aka 'Fried Chicken Food Baby')"

Le Luxembourg, nouveau berceau du Jazz européen ?.... Si des musiciens comme Michel Pilz, Ernie Hammes ou Roby Glod ont porté trop discrètement une qualité musicale indéniable pendant de nombreuses années, la scène luxembourgeoise semble pousser les frontières et s’émancipe grandement depuis ces derniers mois. Pascal Schumacher, Maxime Bender  entre autres sont là pour témoigner de cette effervescence dans l’écriture, la composition et avec une expression sur scène des plus passionnantes.

Parmi ces musiciens attachés à leur territoire mais conquérants sur le monde, le pianiste Michel Reis, le contrebassiste Marc Demuth et le batteur Paul Wiltgen ont su prendre le temps de la réflexion, de l’apprentissage et de l’ouverture sur ce monde. Résidant aux Etats-Unis depuis plusieurs années pour Michel Reis et Paul Wiltgen, navigant entre Portugal, Espagne et le reste de l’Europe pour Marc Demuth, ce Trio déjà complice depuis 1998 tient à s’affirmer aujourd’hui comme une des formations les plus originales dans le célèbre triangle piano, basse, batterie. 

Une écriture très européenne pour les mélodies associées à la puissance rythmique US dans tout ce qu’elle a d’enthousiasmant tant dans sa dynamique que dans l’assise de sa construction. Reis / Demuth / Wiltgen nous interpellent sur la richesse de ce jazz actuel et sur une Europe décomplexée.
