Hi,
It’s a great pleasure for me to announce Aaristos as new guest wizz, the Germany-based DJ with Greek roots, who is a true magician in blending the typically German ethereal electronic sounds with the peerless depths of Greek mysticism.  When listening to this set for the first time, my mind slowly drifted away to the Meteora region in North-West Greece, with its unique complex of ancient monasteries perched on top of giant rock formations (some of which tower 400 meters above the surrounding valley).  In the 9th century, the first ascetic hermits arrived in this area and settled on top of these boulders, living a life in solitary contemplation above the clouds and only meeting sporadically during their recurrent hermit get-togethers.  In the ensuing centuries, the hermits were replaced on the rocktops by orthodox monasteries, which could only be reached by wooden ladders or even ropes.  This was only for the brave as these ropes only got replaced ‘when the Lord decided so’.  At its peak, there were over 20 rock-top monasteries, of which 6 are still operational at this moment (4 for monks and 2 for nuns).  My inner hermit can’t wait to join one of these skyborne monasteries, but only after listening one more time to this set from Aaristos…

Formel is a Leiden based duo composed of Tom Noah and Bas van der Laken.

While Bas produced progressive music for many years, Tom made fame as a techhouse dj. Combining sounds by using plain techno beats, raw bass lines and a hint of jazz, makes the sound that is typical Formel. The sounds of Formel are a beautiful journey through a deep and colorful palette with a wide and varied worldly feel. Organic and melodic with a perfectly fitting balance between dancing and listening; Formel comes up with a refreshing and exciting sound you haven’t quite heard yet.

Formel debuted in 2013 on Daniel Sanchez’ ‘Bla Bla Records’ with their first full length album of nine tracks ‘Entzun’. Their follow up was their EP Kolyma on Berlins Einmusiks’ ‘Einmusika Recordings’ in May 2014. Formel can be booked both as live or DJ set. Live you can expect the deep, grooving and danceable sounds of Formel. While Tom performs as DJ, expect an extra pinch of power, to get the dancefloor moving.

Formel played at national and international clubs and festivals suchs as Off Sonar – Einmusika meets Katermukke (Barcelona), Tach & Nacht (Hamburg), Pleinvrees Heroes (Amsterdam), Amsterdam Open Air (Amsterdam), Goldfish Outdoor (Amsterdam), Paradiso (Amsterdam) and Graefenthal (NL).

Keep an eye and ear on these guys while there is al lot more to come this year!

Soul of Zoo narrate this chapter in the perspective of a long story safari from the jungle to the city. The duo believes that it is all about the animal spirit that music can bring you through its countless horizons.

Born and club-grown in Paris, Ben Eager and Jeff X met at a young age. Being brothers from another mother, they decided to leave Paris and travel the world after many years of club experiences. Their goal was to discover the hidden treasures and cultures of the globe.

After almost 10 years of travelling around special countries they decided to combine their spiritual love for Mother Nature with their respect and emotional connection with animals - which signalled the birth of ‘Soul Of Zoo’. 

This safari was recorded live at Velvet Club in Montreal.

A Voyage of Spirits by Soul Of Zoo ⚗ VOS 040

This year at Robot Heart I was invited to play in the dark of the night surrounded by the colours of the lights of each person riding their bikes towards “In every lifetime I will find you” beautiful sculpture by Michael Benisty through the Playa.

After a two year break from Burning Man it was such a sweet, deep and smooth return on the bus, where I tried to give it the best soundtrack for each moment of that ride.

I remember each flash of it and every time frame associates to every movement of riding towards something unknown. 

All the colours and sounds were connected to the people and the music in an hypnotic way like mirrors. 

When we finally arrived to the embrace sculpture it felt like the beginning of something we had been waiting during that ride. 

Frequencies changed, and so did our emotions.

Thanks to everyone who was there to transport with us. 

I hope you will all enjoy this set, and for anyone who wasn’t there I wish the music can help them to feel what it was like to actually be there and imagine.

And of course thank you Robot Heart for giving me once again the opportunity to create a great memory for my life and the others"

Welcome back to the Magician On Duty Journey Series!

On this week's editions we welcome @saqibmalik

Saqib Malik is a Pakistani DJ/producer based in Brooklyn, New York. His insatiable thirst for sound has led him to continuously collect eclectic music of all types. Saqib curates only the music that he absolutely loves, regardless of genre, and he has a collection ranging from techno to downtempo and everything in between. A self-proclaimed student of the dance floor, he has a deep respect for the energy that makes people move. His musical background is equally western and eastern, and informs his productions as well as his DJ selections. As a teen and into his early twenties, Saqib played guitar and bass in a death metal band in Pakistan. But he has also studied sitar and eastern classical music. He started making music at the age of twelve and has been obsessed with it ever since. To further cultivate his production ability, he studied music production, theory, and sound design at Rutgers University, School of Audio Engineering (NYC), and The Point Blank Music Academy. His music has been released on Sol Selectas, Cenote Records, Flying Circus, Magician on Duty, Resopal Schallware (Vinyl), L’Enfant Terribles, For The People, Intimate Project Music, 3 Bridge Records, and Secret Jams.

Saqib’s career in the New York City dance music scene started in 2013 at Output club in Brooklyn, where he convinced a security guard to give his demos on a USB stick to the duo Blond:ish. This eventually led to a track on Flying Circus’s Ibiza #1 compilation, invitations to play his first parties in NYC, and a two-year residency at Members Only. Currently, Saqib has played all over New York City and warmed up for Dixon, Francesca Lombardo, M.A.N.D.Y., Behrouz, Butane, and other notable artists. In 2017, he joined the ebb + flow family as both an artist and a team member. He is also a resident of For The People, a Toronto-based record label, art collective, and party production group since its inception in 2015. The past few years have seen Saqib behind the decks all over the world - from Toronto to Miami to San Francisco and Oakland to Honolulu to Cartagena, Tulum, Lima, and the jungles of Costa Rica.

We are happy to welcome him to our family, and we hope you enjoy this mix as much as we do!
