This is one of the first songs I ever wrote, it was written around 2002.  It's been refined a bit since it's initial creation, but for the most part is pretty close to the original.  Which was written using a 4 track casette recorder that a co-worker at the time borrowed to me, a shitty Ibanez guitar, a Digitech effects processor, my sister's bass (that I'd tend to steal).  
I started out on drums, and kinda taught myself how to play guitar, and bass.  I was never a "shredder", my ideas for guitar parts were always a little more focused on textures, and experimenting with effects.  I'd just try to get the emotion of what I'd hear in my head to come through the music.


"Horizon" by Mermecolion

Though influenced by my favorite artists, such as Tool, NIN, Smashing Pumpkins, (etc.) I've always been inspired by movie soundtracks/composers, as well as some classical music.
"Ghost of The King" was written in 2008, it was pretty different than anything I'd written up to that point, using ambient and eerie textures, and more minimal percussive ideas.  What came out was haunted, but majestic, hence the name.

I wrote, and recorded this whole song basically in one day.  
I was in a band with a couple friends called Release The Shark (yes, that's right), we were practicing one day, the bassist, Tony Sandberg would always play this little riff, just for the hell of it.  At the end of practice, I told him I was gonna make a song out of that riff before practice, the next day.  I sat down for a few hours and fleshed out this demo, kind of a Deftones meets Smashing Pumpkins kinda tune.  And as promised, showed him and Brian Bothe the demo the next day.

"Hall Bears"

This song was written in 2006, it was originally titled, "2012".  But it's 2014 now, and the world didn't come to an end, so the title is now "The Inevitable".  
When I was young, I was terrified of the possibility that the apocalypse might happen at some point in my life time.  I grew up hearing about all these scenarios; war, plague, asteroids, etc.  At a certain point I realized, predictions will be made, but no one actually knows when the world will actually end.  That's not to say that I don't think it'll happen anymore, if anything it could be right around the corner, but living in fear isn't really living, it's waiting, and wasting.

"The Inevitable" by Mermecolion

This is another song that I wrote for "Release The Shark", a band I was in for a little while before joining 10,000 Days.  I wrote a bunch of instrumental songs that I was hoping would get vocal lines written, but then the project kinda got abandoned.
But I was pretty happy with how some of them turned out, so I decided to share them on here.
This is a pretty straight forward, meat & potatoes, ass kicking kinda hard rock song.

"In Sheep's Clothing"

Originally, this was a demo I made for a band called, "Fixer", after a while of waiting for vocals to be written for it, I kinda took it back as a "Mermecolion" song, and re-arranged it a bit, and added some strings, and piano to make it a little more lush.

I am a drummer, and songwriter from St. Paul, MN.
I have written/recorded lots of demos for various bands/projects over the years, which I've decided to share on here.
My main project "Mermecolion", in which I've written/recorded/performed the music myself, has been abandoned for a while, but I'm planning to start writing again, and recording music this year.  
The intention for "Mermecolion" has always been to eventually turn it into a live band, I always envisioned the live show being something along the lines of Massive Attack meets Nine Inch Nails.  But, we'll get to that...
