About this mix:
There are some circumstances capable of uniting all the peoples of our planet. Some of these are very negative as we have all experienced in our recent time. Fortunately, others are desirable and therapeutic. "Signals from our spacetime" is the summary of a work that collects 19 tracks also very distant from each other both in space and in time. A mix created to entertain us but also to remind that music is our great ally, able to unite us and help our (sometimes difficult) journey, in this place called Earth.

About this edit :

Please, let me thank you very much for enjoying my first edit on Cesaria Evora's Petit Pays. Continuing in the same vein, I thought of proposing a new edit on a song by a young and wonderful singer born on the island of São Nicolau in Cabo Verde: Lucibela. The solid performance at the congas of a dear percussionist friend accompanied me at the piano and keyboards and cross the whole song becoming predominant in the second part of it: the percussive abundance is now out of the mix, totally changes the song taking it by hand and carrying to the south, towards Brazil ...

About Lucibela:
Lucibela was born in Tarrafal on the island of São Nicolau in Cabo Verde on April 18, 1986.  She began to show an interest in singing at a very early age.
Lucibela participated in the Sfinks Festival in Belgium then, in October and November 2017, she recorded her first album in Lisbon with Toy Vieira to the realization, one of the most famous Cape Verdean musicians of the local scene, who accompanied the greatest voices in the past, Bana, Titina, Tito Paris, Cesaria Evora, Lura and many others. 
With the album named Laço Umbilical (Umbilival cord) released in February 2018, the chanteuse is determined to conquer the scenes of the world.

"The sun of a mediterranean April began to warm my sad and disheartened soul from a period psychologically long and heavy to endure. A long period that has severely tested the peoples of an entire planet. I knew that to get out of it I would have to feed my spirit with music. But I was looking for a different kind of music, far from everything I had created so far. The desire to create something syncretic, transversal, highly energetic and spiritual, rich, ancestral and melodic, grew in me. I took a cue from this global situation to think about our destiny, about our sense of belonging to this place and this time. So I looked for a sound that was stripped of any categorization. A sound capable to elude any scheme by borrowing instruments, sounds, melodies from all over the world and blending them together. Whether it was a japanese taiko, a blues or latin melody played on the guitar, a duduk (and, why not, a panflute) or the voice of an opera singer no longer mattered. These elements so distant and different from each other had to dialogue together. I asked my best friend, Ueps, to accompany me with his guitar: I needed his company to face this sonic journey. After almost 30 years I think it's truly incredible with how much skill and beauty this artist has mixed and made dialogue between Arab music and Hispanic melodies. An absolute innovator! As she liked to define herself, Rosa Balistreri was an activist who held rallies in the squares of small sicilian towns, with a guitar. She hated to define herself as a singer and yet, more than 35 years after her death, her powerful and incredible voice continues to conquer anyone who listens to her. To those who understand her lyrics in dialect, Rosa Balistreri transmits all the explosive strength of sicilian women forced to suffer domestic violence. In a past that, unfortunately, is never behind us. As if having to answer a call from my own land (I was born and lived a short distance from where Rosa Balistreri lived) a dreamy and fairytale re-edition of "A Curuna" (the crown) was created. This is a song enriched with peculiarities loved by the historical music of southern Italy (such as the Jaw Harp, the accordion and syncopated or off-beat percussions). Finally I mentioned the Triskelion (present on artifacts in Sicily even before the arrival of the Greeks) to represent the ancient roots of the Sicilian people, of which I am also a part.

About this edit :
Usually the reason that drives me to create a new edit starts from the connection I feel with the original track. The desire to create this edit stems from my deep love for Morna music. A love born from an early age, since in the 90s the pathos of Cesaria Evora's voice, together with that of other great artists, filled the afternoons of a child who used the piano at home to improvise over what he loved most. 10 years after the death of the barefoot Diva, this love still continues. Petit Pays is probably not Cesaria Evora's best known song, it is simply the one most loaded with memories for me. I have kept intact the so perfect melodic system of the piece, even preserving its original tempo. My efforts have been focused on creating a rich but never heavy percussive groove, enriched by warm, dry instrumental strokes and a delicate final melodic line improvised with a soft sounding synth that lets itself be accompanied by the string instruments of the original piece.
I hope you enjoy this version at least as much as I enjoyed working on it.

Who @salvatoreevola is?

Classical musician, curious pianist who grew up immersed in multiform sounds from all over the world which were created either analogically or digitally.
Having approached electronic music as a DJ and later as a producer, he gets great satisfaction in Mexico, thanks to Netflix. He was in fact one of the artists chosen for the soundtrack of the second season of “Club de Cuervos” .
Deep admirer of World Music, after studying the piano, he reaches the awareness that the greatest achievement of Music is to be a message which does not need a language. A boundless message of infinite peaceful power capable of escaping from any category humans constantly tries to create.
