This mix was recorded before the tragic, yet entirely avoidable, wildfires that have been raging through the island of Maui this past week. As such, apart from the note at the beginning, I do not mention them throughout the mix. These fires have a direct connection to the US occupation and colonisation of the Kingdom of Hawai’i. I wasn’t planning on sharing this mix but the events of the last week are the latest and most visceral representation of why Hawaii needs full independence, however that looks, from the yoke of US imperialism. 

Rest in Power to all those who died. Hawaii will be free! 


DESCRIPTION -

Hawai'i is often seen as a tropical paradise, where dreams are made amidst white beaches & palm trees. The reality for the indigenous Kānaka Maoli is a far cry from this image. For over 120 years the US has colonised & committed genocide against Hawaiians in an attempt to destroy their culture & take their lands. These are songs of resistance, Aloha ʻĀina & love for the Lāhui.
