The Mudds are known for their soulful, relaxing sound. Their smooth jazz and blues style will return you to the days of Louisiana speak-easy lounges and cool cats. Sam Mudd began playing bass as a teen. In high school, he played at his prom and parties. Sam gained a ton of experience playing with Sarasota Slim, Lucky Peterson and numerous other great musicians while touring the globe as the original bassist with Tampa Bay blues band Rock Bottom & The Cutaways. He took a 25 year hiatus from the business to pursues home building. Five years ago, Sam returned to play with Franc Robert, Little Mike, Sarasota Slim and various top-notch Florida bands. At the VII Pop Furguson Festival in North Carolina, Sam played with Big Bill Morganfield, Mac Arnold, Trudy Lynn and many more. Four years ago, he handed the bass over to his wife Betsy and taught her his bag of tricks all the while perfecting his vocals, guitar leads and writing all of the songs on their first album “Dream One Day”. As an artist, Betsy learned quickly and her smooth rhythmic lines fit like a glove with Sam’s old school style. Sam says, Betsy’s solid, eager to learn new material, and almost always smiling. They hand-pick songs from blues and jazz masters such as Eddie Boyd, Ollie Shepard, Smokey Hogg, Willie Dixon and ZZ Top. They “Muddified” the songs and began playing at Sip in Leesburg every Saturday, then Whispering Oaks Winery took them on as the House Band in 2017. Check their calendar and catch them at Masaryk Winery, Margarita Breeze in Crystal River, Citrus Hill Country Club and many venues in The Villages.
Jazz Drummer/percussionist Alex Herman joined the band as a guest musician. Alex attended Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond receiving a Bachelors of Music with a concentration in Jazz Studies. For the past 6 years, he worked wit Carnival Cruses as the Musical Director for their shipboard Entertainment Department.  Before working with Carnival, he was heavily involved in the Richmond, Virginia musical theater scene as a drummer and percussionist. Performing in shows such as Chicago, Tommy, Pippin, Spelling Bee, and Nunsense. In Richmond, he also worked as a freelance drummer with his own personal bands and performed in numerous venues locally and across the country. He also performed for his local church group and volunteered to teach percussion lessons to underprivileged children. Alex recently spent a year living in New York City working as a Production Manager with the Emmy award winning entertainment company RWS & Associates. He joined theMomentum Artist team working as the Artist Manger for the acclaimed jazz musician, composer and arranger Mark Berman.
