Here's my version of 'Fanny Blair' - a folk song treating a particularly dark and sensitive subject, based on events that occured in County Armagh in 1785.

The singer Jean Ritchie used to say that all folk songs are true, but I'm not so sure. At least, the truth may not be found on the surface here. You can read this one as an earnest attempt to clear the accused's name or, as I'm inclined to, a rather grubby piece of propaganda. Still, I find it a fascinating little song, particularly because of its singularity within the traditional repertoire.
