Drumcode - part 2

Alan Fitzpatrick makes a triumphant return to the scene-leading imprint this August. The typically bombastic three-tracker of explosive, crowd-moving techno opens with ‘Love Siren’ packed with all the power and punch required to knock over festival crowds as it systematically builds and drops, this is one for the big open air stages. ‘U Said U’ is a massively hyped track that has been the subject of huge fan-demand since it first featured on Beyer’s Drumcode Radio in January. ‘Rumours’ wraps things up in slightly more understated but non-the-less effective fashion with its drawn out, tension building intro mushrooming into a crescendo of sleazy chords and sparking melodies.

Senso Sounds is Oliver Huntemann's label for underground dance music, based out of Hamburg and already racking up an enviable back catalogue of releases. Kickstarting a new series of EPs with new exclusive tracks from different artists, Senso Sounds Level 01 dives right into the thick of it with four brand new killer tracks from the roster.

First up is the man himself Oliver Huntemann, dropping 'Kamikaze' for our listening pleasure. Techy and funky, the track builds and builds over seven and a half minutes - a driving groove pro- pelled by urgent drums, a swirling bassline and a think, mutating synth line. A suitably epic way to kick off the series.

Next up, Brazilian techno don Victor Ruiz teams up with danish Noir for 'I Am' - a pulsating, heady slice of techno for the floor with conjuring vocals by Cari Golden.

Venetian veteran Veerus provides 'Mind Awake, Body Asleep' - a hymn to the techno lifestyle wrapped in a dark and punishing groove. 

Rounding off the EP is Julian Wassermann with 'Neurose' - the much-rated German producer staying on message with another deep, growling tech bomb for the early hours.

Victor Ruiz & Noir - I Am feat. Cari Golden

Contained within this eleven-track compilation is a collection of tracks submitted to Drumcode as demos but which didn’t have other tracks to be partnered with to make up a classical Drumcode EP. Such was the quality and quantity of these stunning one-off tracks that the idea of making them into a compilation was born primarily for practical reasons. As the project grew the idea became a theme and the theme evolved into a finished project – A-Sides - which tells both the story of Drumcode’s recent past with familiarly high-octane tracks from Adam Beyer, Alan Fitzpatrick, Joseph Capriati, Gary Beck, Gregor Tresher and Dustin Zahn & Rachel Palmer but also gives a glance into what is to come as the likes of Patrick Siech, Luigi Madonna, Roberto Capuano, Dhillon and Manic Brothers get their chance to contribute to the shaping Drumcode’s future.

Their shared passion for the sultry, tough sounds that have come to define the New York scene has created a strong musical understanding. The cornerstone of a partnership that combines classic styles with new-school inventiveness to deliver new techno sound that brings energy and emotion to the underground. ‘The Journey Begins’ exemplifies this musical vision with an epic production that has soaring chords contrasting with a dark pulsing groove beneath to create a distinctive and memorable atmosphere. ‘Vertical Limit’ provides the textbook compliment on the b-side; fashioning a hypnotic and tension-building workout from an infectious tribal groove punctuated with abrasive stabs and dark, warped vocals.

Not many artists are lucky enough to release a track that defies genre classification and reaches into mainstream culture, with people enthusiastically embracing its melody and adopting it as if it were a football anthem.
