Hi everyone, 

here's my set at Free Your Mind Festival 2022! I had the honour to play just before the golden hour slot on a massive stage under a bridge, the sun was beaming and dust was flying everywhere, which was absolutely magical. For this reason I also felt going a bit happier with a bit more vocals than I normally do, mostly towards the second half of my set. I hope you'll enjoy <3

Nine months after the well received MXMN002, SAMA is back on his own imprint with his third release. 4 tracks, all centered around a general theme; each track consists of textural soundscapes and heavy growl-like sounds, but with vastly different flavours.

Whereas “There’s Not A lot To Say” is the most subdued and atmospheric track, “Benefit The Masses” is the more in-your-face track, driven by a heavy broken-beat kick pattern.
On the B-side, “Fragments Of Distrust” is a more tribal and groovy track, and to top it off “Gentle Reminder” is the most driving track, with a forward-pushing locked groove. Long story short: there should be a track in there for everyone’s needs.

As with the first two releases, the artwork is painted by Argentinian artist Ric Santesteban.

OECUS Premiere | SAMA - Fragments Of Distrust [MXMN003]

Hey peeps,

here's my 3-hour closing set at ORPHIC. This was a really special one for me as I've been going to the Orphic parties quite a bit. From the first time visiting I wanted to play here. The crowd and vibe at these parties is zero to none, and the organisation is a lovely group of people with a very community-based mindset. 

I wanted to do something special, and I think you can hear that in this set. It's a very hypnotic and heavy set, ranging from very emotive to heavy dark tracks, with a lot of layering going on. There's a few small moments that are slightly messy as I was constantly playing with multiple decks at once, but that makes it human ;). The recording cut out at 2:50:00, so I edited the last few tracks in to ensure a safe landing after 3 hours. 

Hope you'll enjoy it as much as I did playing this.

SAMA closing set at ORPHIC, Amsterdam [03.12.23]

Vera and I met as residents at our beloved Club Basis and quickly found out Vera was moving in a similar direction as I did a few years ago. Since we both originally came from different backgrounds, the connection felt extra strong. This called for a B2B. The synergy was even more intense than we expected, turning into a three-hour journey of layering and going deeper and deeper, slowly building to a heavy and dark crescendo. I personally don't think I've ever built up a set this perfectly, and this can only really be attributed to the incredible chemistry we had here.

We’re so excited about the outcome, that we decided to share the set, and we sincerely hope you'll enjoy it as much as we did playing this.

It has been a while! SAMA is back on his label Maximalist_Minimalist after 1,5 years of silence. This time it's 3 hard-hitting and functional tracks, all heavily played and road-tested by a small handful of artists over the course of the last year.

The fourth EP in the "MXMN" catalog starts off with "Concentrado". A driving groove and a big focus on the tight and crispy drums take you by the hand before introducing an angry bass that takes you out of the functional, into the emotional. The second track "Particularity" does justice to its name with a particular and playful-but-heavy groove, while the spaced out synths, almost breathing percussion and eerie atmospherics try to pull you in. Finishing it off, "I Might've Misunderstood" is the least menacing of the three, but nonetheless a powerful track with tight drums, SAMA-esque bass growls and a thin metallic lead tip-toeing throughout.

Finishing off the EP, 'I Might've Misunderstood' is the least menacing of the three is a powerful track with tight drums, SAMA-esque bass growls and a thin metallic lead tip-toeing throughout. This track was also the track made for SAMA's Masterclass on SINEE.

This sound is heavily focused on, but not limited to synthesis, harmony, atmospheric soundscapes and broken beat patterns. A more “free” approach to making music, leaving any preconceptions about who or what I should be as an artist at the door. For being undefined means to experience creative freedom. 
        
Having a defined sound as an artist is simultaneously incredibly important to grow a fanbase and the most restraining thing there can be for one’s creativity. UN_defined will be an outlet for whatever SAMA feels like or am inspired by in the future.

SAMA is a DJ and producer from Utrecht, The Netherlands. 

SAMA's productions and sets have a signature dark, driving groove, where storytelling always takes centre-stage. Music riddled with small intricacies, a heavy focus on sounddesign and an infinitely perfectionist mindset; a Maximalist approach to a Minimalist sound, if you will.
