Produced by David Welsh. Written for inclusion in a musical I am currently co-writing with Hello Emerson about (terrible) men. Inspired by A Chorus Line, #metoo, a city hoping to become the new Amazon headquarters, and Turgenev’s Fathers and Sons. Was thinking back to my high school experience in the late ‘90s, specifically a time I got blackout drunk and snapped back into reality with someone throwing me up against a brick wall yelling “What did you say to Tammy?!”

Produced by David Welsh. Written on the other side of the country while in San Francisco for work, waiting to find out if/when my dog Charlie was going to die back in Columbus. Trying to dull the pain with fast food, alcohol, and working out too much in the hotel gym; choking back tears at mile 4 on the treadmill, watching Will Smith’s command performance in Independence Day. Charlie made it through the trip, but passed away while we were recording the record. R.I.P. our sweet boy.

Sam's songs cover autobiographical glimpses and musings on life and masculinity in late capitalist America--the requisite singer-songwriter navel gazing intersecting with stories of hopeful Beanie Baby collectors, eating and dying in fast food restaurants, and the enduring power of '90s popular music. This cheeky obscurity over a soft alt-rock soundtrack has drawn listeners to his work both as a solo artist, and earlier as the primary songwriter of Heavy Mole and Feature Films.

He's refined his balance between satire and sincerity on Self-Portrait w/Fries, a  five track EP produced by David Welsh from The Fray, coming out March 22, 2019. He’s still clowning you, just more empathetically. And he's crying and snacking the whole time.
