On the surface, the song reads like a breakup, with lyrics dripping in melancholy, “I’m always down in the dumps in the dumps / Thinking of the last time that I saw you / And how you made me feel so rough.” But the reality? It’s a tongue-in-cheek, upbeat and playful response to an argument where the barbs never really landed.

“It’s satire,” explains Jimmy. “The whole song is me mocking the idea that this person’s words could wreck me. I’m overplaying the sadness so much that it loops back into joy. It’s was me making delicious lemonade from someone’s particularly sour lemons.”

down in the dumps

‘chance encounter’ captures the rush of early infatuation.  It’s the first chapter of a bigger story as the forthcoming EP traces the full arc of that relationship, from the honeymoon haze to the wtf phase. “It’s about that first hit of magic when someone unexpected walks into your life and the whole day feels like a film,” Jimmy Morris explains. “We wanted it to feel cinematic but real, fun but sincere.  We reference bands like The Cars and the poppy side of The Cure, who we think walk that line perfectly.”

“As brothers, we’ve always had each other’s backs, naturally keeping each other in check and on the right path. Writing ‘count me out’ was a great way to align ourselves again” says singer Jimmy. “Part of growing up for us has been learning when to say no, figuring out when to prioritise our future selves, and being ok with missing out on some fun nights here and there.’

Harry adds: “Maybe you never fully get there, but ideally we’re striving to become people we can be proud of. We’ve found it can be really hard to admit the bad habits that hold you back from reaching your full potential especially when they’re intertwined with your work and social life.”

“For us, this song serves as a small guard rail when we feel like slipping,” Jimmy continues. “We hope it can do the same for others who might need a gentle nudge in the right direction.”

count me out

“I don’t know why you lie” comes from a very real situation we witnessed when a close friend of ours was being cheated on repeatedly. Every time the truth surfaced, he’d deny it, twist the story, and somehow things would go back to the way they were. The trust was fragile, the hurt was buried, and I felt the relationship was held together not by love but by fear of being alone. 
	
Watching that cycle unfold, the hope, the heartbreak, the pretending, it made me wonder what it feels like to love someone who keeps lying to your face. So we wrote the song from her perspective: the late-night questions, the desperate calls, the endless searching for a reason that could make the pain make sense. The chorus reflects that breaking point, “I don’t know why you lie,” the moment when you can’t ignore the truth anymore.
