This week’s mix comes from Jake Miller, 1/5 of the new Reggae crew ‘Youth Downbeat Sound’. Jake has spent the last few years working in the legendary London record shop Flashback Records and is a serious collector of all things Reggae. He has a monthly show on Kindred Radio exploring all different kinds of vinyl crackle and will be launching a new hand built sound system with his crew in May. This week he has dug deep into his dusty 7’s box and brought us a 100% Studio One singles mix. “Here’s a selection of Studio 1 classics, all on 45 for your listening pleasure!”. After a lovely 4 date tour of Ireland over St. Patrick's weekend with MC Kwasi, I had to upload one of the gigs! This one was recorded on St. Patrick's eve in Dublin's Button Factory, which I first played in about 15 years ago during the Guiness Blues Festival. The venue is like a bigger version of the Band On The Wall, and also has a fantastic L'Acoustics sound system, so I felt very much at home. MC Kwasi did a fantastic job of getting everyone smiling & dancing, and all the venue staff & crew were really friendly & helpful.

Inspired by this fantastic documentary Zu Zu Mamou has been exploring Lisbon's vast musical landscape to bring you this mix. With roots in Angolan 'afrohouse' 'kuduro''semba' and Cape Verdean 'funana', fused with European techno and electronica, Lisbon's Batida sound is a genre defying blend of past and future rhythms.
