Continuing a strong beginning for the new imprint, Movement Ltd revitalizes two progressive music classics from Michael Burns. Recording under the alias’ of Blue Haze and Panoptic, UK artist Michael Burns earned recognition shortly after his initial productions were released in 2002. As a favourite of progressive music tastemakers Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren and Sander Kleinenberg, Michael landed standout releases on Deep Records, Little Mountain and Saw Recordings through the mid-2000s. With that several of the genre’s timeless classics were born, none more memorable than perhaps ‘Surface’ and ‘Into Nothing’. Now breathing new life into these seminal creations, Movement Ltd presents new revisions from Paul Anthonee and Tash for the Spring of 2021.

Completing the release Movement Recordings label boss Tash reimagines the Bill Hamel ‘Last In 9 Vocal’ version of Blue Haze ‘Into Nothing’. Originally released in 2004 on Satoshi Tomie’s SAW Recordings, the project signified a shift in sound from the label’s darker, tribal roots. Storied US artist and Sunkissed Records founder Bill Hamel had a hand in a multitude of memorable releases throughout progressive music’s first movement. In addition to being a favourite of Sasha & Digweed, Bill was a highly regarded mix engineer, working with Seal, U2, Nelly Furtatdo, Marilyn Manson, Gwen Stefani & Pharrel, Rihanna, Madonna, Britney Spears, Depeche Mode, New Order, Prince and Justin Timberlake. Earning two Grammy nominations in the process, Bill always remained tied to the electronic underground in some regard as well, most recently releasing as Fantum on Above & Beyond’s Anjunabeats imprint, before tragically passing away in 2018. Looking to honour Bill’s memory, Movement Recording label boss Tash provides a fresh take of Bill’s highly regarded take on ‘Into Nothing’. With the remix being regarded by some as one of progressive music’s greatest tracks, Tash stays true to its musical spirit and overall groove, resulting in a version that sits comfortably in both current and nostalgic spaces. Highly emotional, it rounds out an excellent second release for Movement Ltd, a label who has laid the ground work for an incredible year to come

The 15th release from Sum Over Histories, the label from electronic music duo Frankey & Sandrino, comes from Istanbul-based artist Murat Uncuoglu.

With an ear for music and a mind for technology, the five-track EP delves deep into the nuances of intelligent dance music. Uncuoglu became fascinated by the intersection of music and technology in Turkey, and chose London as the place to elevate and amplify his passion and curiosity. The city opened up his head and heart to the possibilities of progressive house which he then took home to Istanbul to build and expand the scene there. Every production feels like a spontaneous journey of discovery; Uncuoglu is unafraid of pushing boundaries and exploring the unseen edges and dark corners of electronic music. 

The title track, Invisible Eyes is arguably the most emotive and introspective of the EP. With gushing synths and messianic build-ups, the track has the texture of the other-worldly; a musical realm to get lost in. Uncuoglu’s signature style starts simple and grows increasingly complex. He adds hi-hats, synths, idiophones and effects reminiscent of smoke machines billowing over a packed nightclub. 

Uncuoglu flexes his unparalleled production skills with Sooner or Later, a stripped back percussion-driven track for deep thinkers and conscious listeners. It begins methodically, until Uncuoglu layers in digitised synths and frenetic percussion to create a mammoth analogue and digital crescendo, a symbiotic reflection of our online and offline existence. Bloom is another nod to Uncuoglu’s fascination with technology, a combination of deep synths and hospital-like bleeps that descend into controlled chaos. Uncuoglu takes the listener on a journey to the inner most corners of his psyche with this profound and deeply moving track.

Dairy is powerful and drum-driven, sitting in the intersection of chaos and order. Uncuoglu’s productions often tread the line between the two, so the listener feels lost one second and grounded the next. It’s a profound skill that’s demonstrated well in Feed. The track begins with a 4:4 beat, until Uncuoglu introduces percussion elements along with unexpected time-signatures. Synths and bass and hi-hats create a near chaotic mesh of sounds, only to break down and return to the 4:4. The result is a beautiful, unpredictable construction that encapsulates the many facets of progressive house.

The latest release from Tash's Movement Recordings welcomes Nick Jojo to the label for his debut EP. Hailing from Greece and inspired by the likes of Tale of Us, Dixon, Ame and Maceo Plex, Nick is considered one of the most influential Greek DJs of the past 10 years. His unique taste and exquisite programming skills have led to residences at Void Club and Alemagou Beach Bar, where he has shared the decks with Carl Craig, David Morales, Deep Dish, Dixon, Dubfire, Recondite, Sasha and Tale Of Us. Also, an accomplished producer, Nick's melodic techno sound has found a home on Depth, Family N.A.M.E and RADIANT. Now presenting his first project of 2021, Nick makes his much-anticipated Movement Recordings debut with 'Eikones', alongside a remix from Thyladomid.

The lone interpretation of 'Eikones' is provided by Thyladomid who makes his label debut. The German artist has achieved remarkable success over the last decade, having showcased his music via Diynamic, Suara, Systematic and Traum, while earning the praise of world class DJs such as Adriatique and Solomun. Now making a welcome Movement Recordings debut, Thyladomid provides an inspired take on 'Eikones'. Opting for a similarly punchy groove, the Berlin resident focuses on a strong percussive narrative and a fragmented take on the lead theme, resulting in a great complement to the original. Undeniably peak time, the main break builds waves of emotion as placid pads and poignant tones descend over the cavernous underbelly, before a symphonic synth swell transfers energy into a driving final movement.

Isn’t it a wonder, watching an Outcome unravel in backward motion. The ingenious Croatian duo is back on MoBlack Records, this time, teaming up with Austrian underground renegade, Philipp Straub and two of our favorite talents on remix duties. Retrograde orbits against the grain, in resistance to forward currents, forming kinetic interactions that translate into vigorous sound. From where we’re at, the view is majestic. Outcome and Philipp Straub’s work of art starts off with a moody Original Mix, rife with sublime harmonies. Atop gracious drumming, celestial strings and crunchy synth riffs suture eloquent melodies on fetching basslines that linger. Alex Medina begets the funky middle child of the pack. Sporting a retro groove with a bit of 16-bit breakbeat  playfulness, this defiant remix arouses. And contrary to winding down near the end, it retrogrades, spooling moist synth undulations that will surely set dancefloors afrenzy. Auggie wraps up the three-tracker with his penetrating rendition. Juxtaposing industrial grit to ethereal resonance and riveting drums, the Milan-based DJ/Producer executes bright strings on a simple, earthy delight of a groove to piece it all together, with poise.  This one is raw, metallic and luscious.

Premiere: Luke Alessi - Matter ft. Stereo Mc's [Mobilee]

Like short, stumpy strobes which flog themselves into the misty air, Kevin Di Serna sources the original thoughts behind Depeche Mode’s ‘My Little Universe’ (a track which keyboardist Andy Fletcher called ‘a very techno track’), and ups the ante to encapsulate a rather intense and dazzling climate. Rather laboriously working as the backdrop, the voluptuous bassline pairs with smothered beestings and tin-can drums for a much more brutal rendition to the original. Stuck on repeat for the perfect awakening, piano chords confidently plant themselves for a few bars to guide us into the original elements. Di Serna ensures the vocals are kept clear and understandable - the vocals singing a meaning which he himself identifies with - us being the protagonists of our lives, and that we just need to be aware so we can take this into action. With the backdrop still present to continue to throw us along, jabs of zinky zaps play themselves now and again towards the second verse. Breaking and blending deeper than the surface of the original, this is a rework which brings a richer depth and portrays a free-spirited emotion rolling around in the lyrics with the addition of the heavily-induced beats and gentle splashes of piano keys. It’s an almost postmodern rework which is made for the dancefloor - and one we’ll (hopefully) be hearing out sometime in the near future.
