The violin was once a major part of my life. It was an extension of me, as familiar as my own hand. It had a polished smell, beautiful contours, and it shared tiny sounds when handled. Sounding as beautiful to me as any sonata I dreamed to master. Bodywork explores this kinetic/sonic memory, to appreciate an instrument that enormous significance for me. So long as it was out of the box it was speaking. This short piece includes only sounds from the violin, focusing on a cluster of small gestures, taps, incidental string sounds and hand strokes. It explores a range of kinetic and intimate moments, attempting to present something that reflects what is heard and imagined, my sense of the violin. The piece is influenced by Wishart’s portfolio of vocal extensions as I enjoy pieces that are transparent about material and process, and Westerkamp’s Beneath the Forest Floor, which transforms stunning recordings of Vancouver Island into a new soundscape, reflecting the spirit of how we experience the forest.

Jab Jab were one of the first British rock reggae bands. Their music was raw and energetic, breaking boundaries with a previously unheard fusion of rock, reggae, calypso, punk, soca music and Afro beats. By the mid-late 70s, they were one of the most in-demand British live bands, playing 200 gigs a year to critical acclaim across the UK and Europe with bands including The Jam, Chic, Dire Straights, Heatwave and The Clash. Despite their high profile and success on the live circuit, they remained unsigned, resulting in their music being unavailable outside of concerts. 
After 35 years, Jab Jab recordings have been found and re-mastered, so it's time to turn up your speakers and Jab some music into your soul!
