A few years ago I had an idea when listening the original song, that the bass could make a great metal riff. Today I dusted this idea off, recorded some guitar and vocal tracks, added some drums and here we go. This could be a killer metal track when done properly.
Disclaimer: fully packed with quirks and mistakes. But again, this is just for fun

Early 1995 track. Slowly banging symphonic armchair techno? It has my favourite elements like calm strings and strong, distorted kick, but something went differently here and the result is a tad outside my solar system. "Restart at 4800" refers to computer game, possibly imaginary one. I cannot remember the reason for this sarcastic title, but technically it seems to suggest a situation in game where you've reached a certain score and suddenly it just means going back to square one, as a contrast to receiving turbo speed or additional lives. I've never played much games and I still cannot connect this to any particular game. Maybe it's best to have a small mystery here.

The tape restoration process was simple: record to computer at 48 kHz and remove an accidental REC button press (over-dubbed seconds) by cloning a section. Then doing spectral noise reduction by 12 dB and adding gain with hard limiter to iron out fast peaks. I would like to use azimuth correction and Dolby B reduction but I'll leave this here now.

This project started out as a self-administered technical tutorial. I am a very poor geek, and have just now gotten around to teaching myself Flex Time operations.

But as I kept working colors and ideas began to present themselves, and I found myself back in a palatially squalid student apartment in Worcester MA in the summer of 1976. There was a cheap “record player” there, and a certain album had just come out. I listened to it over and over, to the point where the vinyl seemed worn through. This sounds little to nothing like the album, but it is still somehow my fractured dream memory of it.
