Original music for quartet and piano from the epic production at The Abbey in 2011. Based on the life of master writer, Anton Chekov, the music is full of Russian Romanticism and sweeping melodrama. Production featured 6 live video cameras, 2 projectors, film, 12 speakers, boom and radio mics and a stellar cast.

One of my favourite scores. Druid Production 2006. The Year of the Hiker tells the story of a man who walks out on his young wife and family with no word of warning. Twenty years later, he returns to all that he left behind. The stunning set featured a large stylized 'window' where projections of clouds melted by througout the show relfecting mood and time. Wonderful! One of my favorite scores for Druid.

Empress of India is a black, dark comedy where the profane, the comic and the anguished combine to shattering effect - to ask uneasy questions about faith, belief and abandonment.
The score needed to be uneasy and disjointed, distorted, brooding and dark. Lot's of distortions, strings and lost pianos.

Brothers -from Empress of India (Druid Theatre)

Music for Druid Theatre Company production of the entire cannon of J.M Synge's theatre work performed on a single day.
Riders to the Sea, the Tinkers Wedding, the Well of the Saints, In the Shadow of the Glen, Playboy of the Western World, Deirdre of the Sorrows.
This was epic theatre making and had an epic score to match. Moving from the simple traditional irish Bodhrán to string laden sweeping scores, this was one of the biggest and most demanding projects i've ever been involved in. Critically regarded as one of the most important events in Irish Theatre.
Performed at Galway Arts Festival, Dublin, Edinburgh International Festival and Inis Meain 2005 (music performed live); Minneapolis & Lincoln Center Festival New York 2006.

Music for piano, precussion, strings, traditional flute, fiddle, viola, cello, voice and Uilleann pipes.

A classically trained pianist, Sam Jackson released his debut album, Sharp & Flat, on the 14th September 2012. 
Sharp & Flat is a unique, accessible and absorbing blend of jazz and classical styles, full of Sam’s deeply expressive piano playing and accompanied by a varied ensemble of crossover musicians and sounds.  

The album was mixed by the legendary Jan Erik Kongshaug who has worked with some of the greatest jazz and contemporary artists of our time (Keith Jarrett, Chick Corea) and mastered by Grammy award-nominee Jonathan Wyner (David Bowie, Miles Davis.) 

Sam frequently works with Tony Award winning director, Garry Hynes (Druid Theatre) and tours as keyboard player for Moya Brennan of Clannad. His critically acclaimed compositional work has featured in major productions around the world from Broadway to London, Tokyo and Ireland. As a performer, he has appeared on numerous albums and played across most of Europe, Canada and the USA.
