DL is the second release off of Upstate NY rapper and producer Sammus' sophomore album, PRIME. DL tells the story of what happens when people are backed into corners regarding important pieces of who they are. As human beings we often have one of several reactions to being told that our behaviors, desires, needs, and wishes are unacceptable. Some of us might hide and become reclusive. Others might begin to engage in an elaborate and exhausting performance. There are also those who might grow spiteful and try to inflict pain -- on themselves and/or others. Finally there are those who say f*ck it and let other people deal with their own hate. Through its chorus "DL" tries to push people in the latter direction.

It has been a year since Sammus fought and destroyed M’other Brain. The experience left her drained and questioning her desire and ability to continue in her line of work. Since that time she has been healing by taking a step back from the field and serving in an advisory role for a group of promising young bounty hunters. Floating across galaxies in a self-funded space station, Sammus spends her days training the group of ingénues in all her skills.

One afternoon during a session she is pulled aside by the ship’s captain. For the past several hours the crew has been picking up distress calls and SOS signals that have been sent by Lib Front, a group of self-proclaimed freedom fighters on a nearby planet. Most notably they have been adamant that they are being attacked by a legion of alien soldiers operating under the leadership of a warlord known only as Light Sammus. Carrying a price tag of millions, Light Sammus has been rumored to be the force behind the destruction of countless civilizations across the galaxy, but most importantly for Sammus, her presence has meant the ruin of Sammus’ good name.

Without a moment’s hesitation our young heroine issues a code red, instructing her students to immediately disembark from the space station as it has now become mission control for the journey to capture Light Sammus. Welcome to PRIME.

Crown is the second single from Sammus' Metroid-inspired EP "Another-M." "Three-Fifths" is a song about the cost of being viewed as subhuman. Armed with powerful rhymes from upstate NY spitter Sammus and rich production from her NuBlack Music Group labelmate, D Nilsz, this track forces listeners to remember those who have paid the ultimate price for being black in America. Above all, "Three Fifths" reminds us that black people are whole even though they are often treated like three-fifths of a human by law enforcement.

Three Fifths [prod. by D Nilsz]

"1080p" is the first single off Ithaca, NY rapper, producer, and PhD student Sammus' forthcoming EP dropping in March 2016 (NuBlack Music Group). The song finds Sammus speaking openly about the highs and lows that have shaped her life since dropping her last album in 2014.  Ultimately this revealing song is an important testament to the power of seeking help and prioritizing one's mental health above all.

Infusion is the third-EP and fifth studio project from Ithaca, NY based rapper and producer Sammus. True to her usual form, the six-track EP finds the upstate MC drawing generously on her love of games and cartoons to explore every aspect of her identity -- this time around she zeroes in on everything from her name and her age to her complicated status as a first-generation African girl living in America.

Still, in many ways this project stands in stark contrast to her past works. After a year filled with personal defeats and achievements, three tours, performances at SXSW, and recognition from a variety of notable publications -- Sammus returns to the microphone (aided by sound engineer Alejandro "Sosa" Tello Jr.) bursting with new energy and armed with an array of dynamic beats.

07 Love is Not Love | Mega Ran (feat. Sammus)

Dropping on December 24th, 2012, "Reset," is the first official beat-tape from Upstate NY producer and rapper Sammus. Conceived out of a period of mourning following the loss of her entire catalog of music via a hard-drive accident, "Reset" serves as a nod back to Sammus' roots as an electro-hip hop influenced producer and video game music lover. The production on "Reset," will be streamable for free via sammusmusic.com, bandcamp and soundcloud and will later serve as the instrumentals for her currently-untitled second album, which will be released in 2013.

As her Metroid-inspired name reflects, it is her hope that listeners and future fans will be pleasantly surprised by the contrast between the person society says she should be as an artist and who she actually is.
