In the heart of the city, where streetlights flickered and rain painted the sidewalks, lived a man named Eddie “Bassline” Turner. His life was a rhythm—a syncopated beat of struggle and survival. Eddie had a family—a wife, two kids, and dreams that danced just out of reach.

The bills piled up like broken chords—electricity, rent, groceries. Eddie’s bass guitar sat in the corner, its strings dusty. He’d once played in smoky clubs, his fingers coaxing magic from the frets. But now, the only strings he pulled were those of hope.

Part II: The Midnight Sessions

When the world slept, Eddie sat on the edge of his bed, headphones clamped to his ears. The city outside was a symphony of sirens and distant laughter. But in his mind, he heard a different melody—a drum n bass groove that defied despair.

His fingers tapped imaginary keys, and the bassline hummed. Eddie was no ordinary man; he was a midnight composer. His music was his refuge—a sanctuary where bills vanished, and hunger became rhythm.

His wife, Maria, watched from the doorway. Her eyes held worry, but also pride. She’d seen Eddie’s strength—the way he’d sold his prized vinyl collection to buy diapers for their youngest. She knew—he was the bassline that held their family together.

Part III: The Breakdown

One stormy night, as the rain drummed against the window, Eddie’s phone buzzed. It was a message—a gig offer. A chance to play at a rundown club—the kind where dreams went to die. The pay was meager, but Eddie’s pride swelled. He’d Ace The Bass once more.

The club smelled of damp wood and desperation. The crowd was sparse—tired faces nursing cheap drinks. Eddie stepped onto the stage, his bass guitar slung low. His fingers trembled, but he played—the notes weaving stories of struggle, love, and defiance.

Maria sat in the front row, her eyes locked on Eddie. She’d pawned her wedding ring to buy him new strings. Their kids—Liam and Sophie—clung to her, their faces wide with wonder. They’d never seen their father perform.

And then it happened—the groove ignited. Eddie’s fingers danced, and the bassline roared. The crowd stirred, their hearts thawing. Eddie sang—his voice gravelly but true. His lyrics were hope—a promise that storms would pass, and dawn would break.

As the last chord echoed, Maria stood, tears in her eyes. The crowd clapped, their applause like rain on a rooftop. Eddie bowed, his chest swelling. He’d Aced The Bass—not just for himself, but for his family.

Outside, the rain had stopped. Eddie stepped into the night, Maria by his side. The city glistened, its streets washed clean. Eddie whispered, “We’ll make it, Maria. Our groove won’t break.”

And she believed him, because Eddie Turner was more than a man—he was resilience set to music.

I started out as a Hip-Hop Dj about 1984, and began making music in about 1986 with a borrowed Roland TR-808 drum machine. I began my love affair with house and garage music on NYE 1987 - listening to Adeva's - Respect ....in the driving rain while on the M25 in London. Nowadays I like to make the music from my distant memories - early 90's house and garage, NY style. I play all instruments live into Logic (Electric Bass (Stingray), Keyboards (Korg Triton), and Guitar (Fender Stratocaster)) and rarely use MIDI. Drums all come from an MPC 2000xl and Akai S900 rack sampler or my Isla Instruments S2400. Please enjoy - and I'm happy to repost great sounding old skool house tracks - just shoot me a DM
