This is an adaptation of Georges Brassens' song "Les Trompettes de la Renomée." Brassens was a rare person: a great performer and superior and prolific songwriter. He became in icon in France in the 20th century, but was more mentioned than listened to because his songs make casual listeners uncomfortable. 

It's impossible to translate his songs closely into English without sounding verbose and pretentious. This song enumerates the degrading steps necessary to become famous, which he was in France despite his honesty. Some talents are too great to be domesticated.
