Frankincense & Myrrh

Before my grandmother passed away in the spring of 2016, she had read a journal to me that she wrote when she was 7 years old. That journal was about her family's days of living in the plains of Northwest Texas, near the Red River, where each year they, and all their neighbors, would head down to the river by wagons pulled behind mules. 

At the river, they would pick the fresh, ripe plums and make them into jellies or pies. I had the chance to write this song, based on that journal, and play it for my grandmother 4 times before she passed away. This is a bittersweet memory, like biting into a fresh plum.
